So I had a fun and busy demo session at Comic-Con. I think every Aerospace Engineer at the Con came by my table and played Starships. A good time was had by all, including a few 12-year-olds who weren't rocket scientists.

So that's the good news: these are My People, and I can reach them.

The bad news? My People aren't necessarily miniatures gamers. While I got lots of interest and positive feedback, they weren't interested in painting miniatures and digital downloads.

Anybody got any good suggestions on people to talk to about boxed sets?

Not sure about box sets, but let's talk about a replacement for the figs first. Battlespace had little stands that would hold a cardstock image that was folded in half, so that you had left side and right side. This would be the easiest method. Centurion Legions on the other hand had some flat cardstock images with larger items set up on a box so that you had front, back, top and both sides.

So if you go with one of these ideas, that will handle the issues with painting miniatures.

Now for a company to handle the work, a simple search on Bing will turn up several companies. I would send RFQs out and request samples of other work they have made.

Does ComicCon have an open gaming sort of area or did you have to pay a fortune for a booth???

Thanks, Stogie —

Game Crafter is popular in my neck of the woods, but their booklet costs are a bit high for what I'm doing. (The current minis-focused game is 84 pages.) One of the designers at the Con I talked to recommended Print Ninja, and they accept RFQs.

At the moment, the real issue is representing the ships — I have this awful urge to try to put together cardstock ships, but that's waaaay beyond me.

emckinney —

The gaming area was in the Hyatt this year, and I didn't have to pay for the table. I got invited, so I don't know how hard it is to get space normally. (Me and another KingdomCon invite were in between the Walking Dead and Ghostbusters games.)

I also don't know how discriminating the invites are; I assume it had to do with the fact that my wife is a great booth muppet.
