Can the new Perry Fallschirmjager be used for Normandy '44 (6th regiment,Carentan)? Can the German metal infantry be used for Russia (summer offensives) and Normandy? Or do they need high black boots? Regards Kurt |

Combatpainter, those are the old FJ from Wargames Foundry, not the new ones from Perry Miniatures. |

From what I saw the Gerryparas were for 1940-43ish their kit was not for 1944 onwards. Cheers |

I don't think there would be that much diference in 1943 to 1944 equipment. I say use them if there is no other alternative. |

The Perry FJ are wearing both the early bonesacks with the legs drawn up and the later version with them let down (which gives them that frumpy look). So uniform wise they are fine. No knee pads so they don't look like they just landed at Eben Emael or on Crete, so that doesn't date stamp them as early only. But, by '44 they were sporting MG-42s, and that's where you're going to notice the difference. If you have the skill, a drill, and a metal MG-42 barrel, then maybe a conversion is possible. Also, I didn't see any Panzerfausts or Schreck teams among the Perry workbench greens which you would see in late war FJ. |

MG34's were in use until the end of the war, some Fallschirmjager never received MG42s. |

Thanks for the responce all. Although I'm still not sure if I can use the Perry German figs for Russia and/or Normandy… As mentioned,I'm not sure about the boots. I'm not worried about the tunic & equipment. I don't think it's noticable, the difference between a M40 or M43 tunic in 28mm right..? For the FJ,I have a box of Warlord Games (sculpted by Paul Hicks), so I have MG42's and panzerfausts… Some comparison shots
Compared with Warlord Games British Airborne & FJ with looted weapons & Anti tank team. The prone figs seem to be more "chunky?",(Warlord). Regards Kurt |

MG34's were in use until the end of the war, some Fallschirmjager never received MG42s. Well, that may be true. But the OP was asking what would differentiate late from early. Since FJ units were reequipped for the Normandy campaign most had MG-42s. Even in Italy, the MG-42 was being used by the FJ for the later phases of the Cassino battles and after. Ligny: I'd think the boots wouldn't be noticeable once painted black and surrounded by gravel and flock. Far less noticeable than tunics or weapons. I do think helmet covers would be more common for the later part of the war. I just saw a post on LAF that showed a pack of FG-42s that the Perrys finished and that they were going to be doing a pack of MG-42s as well. So you should probably be able to do a nice late war force with the Perry stuff soon. |
