Confederate flags everywhere in Oklahoma today, a state that did not even exist as a territory during the civil war.

So.. heritage?

jpattern216 Jul 2015 10:53 a.m. PST

Hate. Definitely hate.

john lacour16 Jul 2015 11:21 a.m. PST

maybe its just middle of the road americans saying "enough. i have the right to fly a flag of my choice."

john lacour16 Jul 2015 12:18 p.m. PST

again, this is the last thing that should be a topic on a site about toy soldiers.
seems many love to troll other members here. and i'm ok with that. mean to say, i make almost no comment on these topics. but why bring your usi here?
ok, we get it. if you fly a battleflag, you and your family are:
1) hateful kkk members
2)cavemen
3)anti american
4)hateful
amiright?

jpattern216 Jul 2015 12:57 p.m. PST

Yeah, in Oklahoma today, that pretty much covers it, I think.

So.. heritage?

As it happens there was a small Civil War in "Indian Territory" as it was at the time. The Confederate States having signed a treaty with the Choctaws and Chickasaws in July 1861.

In fact the last Confederate general to surrender anywhere was Confederate Brigadier General Stand Watie on 23 June 1865.

So there is a little "heritage" under it all.

instead of being a country where people are allowed to have and voice any opinion they like, we are now a country where we are told what our opinion should be, and if we don't like it, we are the problem.
i did'nt fight for that.

jpattern217 Jul 2015 9:15 a.m. PST

Oh, boo hoo, and yet here you are voicing your opinion. You poor dear!

When you were "fighting for that," which flag were you fighting under?

Weasel17 Jul 2015 3:18 p.m. PST

What law prohibits you from saying an opinion about the confederate flag?

Please post links to specific pieces of current legislation, federal or state.

Here's the deal:

What a LOT of people nowadays seem to think is that Free Speech means:

You must give me a platform.

You must listen to me.

You must not respond to what I say.

None of those are rights we have.
Someone who says that Hitler did nothing wrong will be met with scorn and derision (unless they say it on Reddit).

Guess what? Just as you can say whatever the hell you want, so can your audience.

If I hoisted a soviet flag on my porch tomorrow, I guarantee that some people here would complain.
Does that mean that I am being censored?

No, not one bit. I can do what I want provided it doesn't break the law but I cannot force someone else to be silent about it.

We see this all the time when people protest something, like the confederate flag and people get offended that they are "censoring us".
No. They have a right to assemble and a right to say whatever they want, just like you do.

They also have a right to petition their representatives, JUST LIKE YOU DO.

Someone expressing a difference of opinion is not censorship and you expressing a minority opinion does not mean you are being censored.

The ONLY thing you are entitled to is that you cannot be arrested by the government for what you say.

None of us are entitled to an audience and none of us are entitled to freedom from reaction, except where said reaction breaks the law.

Not a single one of us have to be silent so you can talk, just like you don't have to silent so I can talk.

Okay… I'm done with the civics lesson here. Stifle me as you see fit.

well said.
