I think I have a handle on rank insignia for NCOs in British line units (red and gold on red), but am still unclear on some other units.

For example, what colors did the King's Royal Rifle Corps (I assume they were in gray serge rather than green) have for their rank chevrons? I have seen some figures with green chevrons. I am also at a loss when it comes to the Royal Marine Light Infantry's NCO markings.

Finally, I have the same question for Egyptian and Sudanese NCOs. I believe that in 1881-1882 they were worn on the lower part of the sleeve, but understand they moved closer to the British system of rank insignia.

I appreciate any advice you might have to offer.

I too would be very much interested in this.

Perhaps it's a question that could be asked of the much more knowledgeable folk on the Victorian Wars Forum:

Thanks, Darrell. I have lurked on the VWF site for some time and found it pretty informative. I will post the question there as well.

Darrell,

Some very good data on the Egyptian part of the question at Victorian Wars forum (under the Sudan section, of course).
