I ran a fictional AWI battle this weekend for our club in Asheville NC using Eric Burgess's Guns of Liberty rule set. It was a pick up battle featuring about 400 28mm figures. The British force had 2 line regiments, a light, grenadier and2 guns with a Hessian jaegers, musketeer and a grenadier regiment. The colonials had a couple of line and the rest militia and two guns. The British had a very solid plan to flank the rebels with the lights grenadiers and jaegers and to press the right flank with the Hessians and foot regiments. =129897318&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=2]link The Brits forced the rebels back from their initial deployment, but chased them right behind a fence line where it all went south for the King. The foot regiments on the right charged but both were shot to pieces by the rabble behind the fences both suffer over 50% casualties, the Hessian grenadiers were able to force the fence line but were cut down with heavy losses by the reserve line. link The British attack all but came to a halt as the British grenadiers went in with the cold steel only to be shot up on the way in and then lost the ensuing melee to the Wilmington Militia! link While this rule set is usually more morale driven than casualty driven the colonials were rolling like fiends. While the British would have won the day tactically, the colonials met their objectives and gave a bloody nose to the lobsterbacks. |

GOL is a good rule set and could use a good campaign system to go with it.Has anyone developed one or knows of one? |

We ran a campaign with it about 15 years ago and Eric has adapted the rules for a campaign, but has not published them as far as I know. It was the best wargaming experience of my life, we used the Avalon Hill 1776 game as a map to move units around with unmarked chits to hide unit composition. He also had a casualty regeneration system to calculate wounded and killed after each battle. Try contacting him through the web page, but if you can't reach him send me an email at markcramer74atyahoodotcom. |
