Which of these is your favorite?

Bring Up The Bodies (Hilary Mantel)
The Book Of Madness And Cures (Regina O'Melveny)
The Orphanmaster (Jean Zimmerman)
The Twelve Rooms Of The Nile (Enid Shomer)
The Orchardist (Amanda Coplin)
River of Smoke (Amitav Ghosh)

Read none of them.

Ragbones07 Jul 2015 6:23 p.m. PST

Haven't heard of any of them.

Bring Up The Bodies is the only one I've read. I can't overstate how good it is. One of the best historical novels I've ever read.

Winston Smith07 Jul 2015 6:35 p.m. PST

Not a manly name among them! grin

OK, read them in the next few months, before the poll comes up for a vote! grin

Do I sense a seed of a future TMP Book Club?

nevals07 Jul 2015 8:00 p.m. PST

Bring up the Bodies is a sequel to Wolf Hall, and that one was very good.

vtsaogames07 Jul 2015 8:07 p.m. PST

My wife's reading Wolf Hall. I get it when she's done. Though I'm plowing through "A Peace to End All Peace" right now. Slow going, that diplomatic history.

Best not to get your reading list from NPR unless you like books that double as sleeping pills. Though I must say I do want to read those Mantel books.

I think that's a little unfair. Off the top of my head, NPR gave me the heads up on The Devil in the White City, King Leopold's Ghost, The Daylight Gate, and The Good Lord Bird.

OK, read them in the next few months, before the poll comes up for a vote! grin

Good grief. Are you actually expecting us to make informed responses to a Poll? How long have you been around here?

I have enjoyed historical novels but usually stick to actual historical books.

Chris Rance08 Jul 2015 3:16 a.m. PST

Another vote for Hilary Mantel. She actually rekindled my interest in Tudor history, which had been snuffed out at school by the dire teaching we had about "Tudors and Stuarts".

Lee Brilleaux Fezian08 Jul 2015 8:29 a.m. PST

NPR is one of the few remaining mass media outlets that appreciates that actual books still exist. Its taste may run to the high-brow end of things, but it's better than the opposite.

Why?

Bellbottom08 Jul 2015 12:46 p.m. PST

Who the heck is NPR? Never heard of them.
Hilary Mantel is brilliant. (both books)
Just finished Conn Igguldens second Wars of the Roses book 'Trinity', much better than the first book and recommended.
Haven't read any of the others (or even heard of them).
I would highly recommend anything by Christan Cameron.
