I happened to be passing Horse Guards parade ground this morning while the Guard was being changed. I noticed that a) The horsemen were wearing Hussar style busbies, not the expected helmet. b) A considerable proportion of the troopers were female. I didn't have time to stop and enquire then, but does anyone know which unit it was mounting guard today (Sunday July 5th)? Can't find out on the googlebox. |

The RHA is standing in for the Mounted Regiment, Household Cavalry whilst the latter are in Norfolk for three weeks giving the horses – and troopers – a break from ceremonial duties. |

About half the King's Troop is female, at the present time; they have also had at least one female CO. |

Because the Royal Regiment of Artillery has ladies in the fighty bit. |
