… did you start out – way back when – building Lego kits by following the instructions, then recombining the pieces? This thread made me wonder it that influenced me… |

I'm sorry to say I started kitbashing before I ever heard of Lego. It became a habit when I needed sci-fi armored vehicles. |

My Mother forbade legos when I was young. Something about not wanting to step on them. I don't recall just when I started kitbashing and converting. But I do remember why I started. Couldn't get what I wanted otherwise. A bit like LaserGrenadier, except I'm a historical gamer… |

I just started kitbashing c. 8 years old, possibily even before I build any kit following the instructions! My older bothers had long built plastic model kits. As I was learning to trim, glue, and paint, I got to work with any left-over bits from their kits. |

Started out with Lego, began kit bashing at a very early age (I won a cub scout modelling competitoon with a diorama of a first aid station featuring Airfix jeeps and Universal Carriers converted into front line ambulances after seeing some similar models in an Airfix Magazine annual. A pity I won as the first prize was a 1/32 vintage Rolls Royce model and I really wanted the second (1/600 model of HMS Leander)! |

I started kit bashing while in High School (1961), I made an armored car out out a plastic model Ontos. My brother, who was 4 at the time broke it up:( Long before Lego plastic bricks, but once I found them in the 1970's I did lots of building and continue to this day. Built up all of the pirate ships and made crews for games |

in my day there were no instructions… we kit-bashed using erector set parts, popsicle sticks, Lincoln logs and a heavy dose of imagination. my first kit bashed "armored vehicles" consisted of 7 dominoes (8 if heavily armored in front). 4 were the square, 2 flat on top leaving a space in the mid-section and one laid flat as the gun. Rubber bands were the ammo of choice. |

My approach to model conversions was entirely unrelated to Lego and almost entirely related to Airfix magazine and Military Modelling. Back in 1960s Lego was just Lego, no kits. |
