Do many of us celebrate our independence form England by watching a display of Chinese fireworks, drinking beer from a Belgian owned company, and listening to music written by a Russian to commemorate a battle won over the French! |

Dont forget that that very independance was won with the help of Germans,French,Poles…. |

Guy Fawkes came first, with the "Chinese" fireworks, don't forget. Everybody likes fireworks, well, up till c. eleven o'clock, anyways. After that, not so much…. |

Three strikes! I guess I'm out… SEMBO didn't grow up going to fireworks shows. I was never really impressed by them … rather be reading a book or somecuh. I guess my kids didn't grow up with it, either. I will be drinking an Irish stout, produced by a multinational headquartered in London and brewed in the USA. No idea what music I will be listening to, and while I'm a Tchaikovsky fan (big tea drinker, you know…) 1812 isn't one of my faves (which is OK, Pete hated Nutcracker). I'm probably going to be in more of a Ramones mood tonight. |

My music tonight will be my daughter singing the national anthem in front of 10-15 thousand people before the fireworks go off! |

If you can, please post a link to that cavcrazy. As for me, not much. I might sneak out for a bit but will probably spend the day puttering around home, maybe make some tacos or burgers and listen to a great American art form, The Blues! |

I watch American made fireworks. Maybe the idea originated in China, but that's no reason not to enjoy them. I choose to drink German beer, when I drink beer at all. But I could be persuaded to drink some moonshine instead. As for music, I listen to the sound of the fireworks. I am free to enjoy most anything I like most anyway I like. I'll not be asking anyone's permission to do so! SFC Robert Johnston US Cavalry, Retired |

Well, despite the fact that even my "German" bier is apparently made in America, and the fireworks are probably made in Mexico, I do get your point. Not sure on the musical scores, but am okay if they are originally foreign. I do hope my chickens and hamburgers are "made" in America, but today, one never really knows, sadly, which is a bit scary. A Happy 4th to you all as well! |

I will be enjoying a Bourbon aged Chicago brewed stout later with a possible Californian Port to follow. Dinner will be local grass fed beef (it was on sale) and veggies from various sources. I'm working on a Warlord Dacian force after finishing my Warlord & Empress Zulu British forces. No grudges here. |

Went for a California Petite Syrah, wouldn't ever go out of country today. Will open a French bottle on Bastille Day. |

As a kid I enjoyed the 4th, but as an adult I got to see what came in too often to the ER. Once you've seen a mangled hand or a kid burned over 80% of their body, the 4th and fireworks sort of loses its meaning. Now I don't work on the 4th anymore, but I still cringe when I hear the firecrackers going off in the neighborhood and hope no child is injured. |

Tripped last year on a short string of firecrackers messing up my shoulder. I was in serious pain and found out I messed up my rotator cuff. No fireworks this year. But, I still feel the pain. |

Weasel | 05 Jul 2015 5:07 p.m. PST |
The beer I had was from a smallish brewery around these parts. I'm sure the fireworks were made elsewhere though and I have no idea about the food. The music was mostly Swedish bands but a bit of Yankee stoner rock too. |

Thanks to our bizarre laws in Pennsylvania, odds are that residents were watching fireworks bought in a neighboring state. Maybe someday the Commonwealth will join the 20th century… and yes, I know its the 21st century but PA has a lot of catching up to do. |

Yeah, one of the people at the party we went to, was from Arizona, where they only recently made fireworks legal (and only some, small stuff, from what I understand). I think she ended up being more excited than my kid :-) |

Late, I know, but the 1812 Overture? Russian victory over the French? I don't get it. |

The Battle of Borodino, the event that Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture commemorates, was the key battle of the Napoleonic Wars, and also its bloodiest. Seventy thousand troops perished as Napoleon's army attacked the Imperial Russian Army outside the village of Borodino, west of Moscow. link |
