St. Petersburg, June 20, 1812
By Order of His Imperial Highness:

It has come to his Majesty's attention that the recruiting of troops to stop the Corsican menace has ground to a slow crawl due to the mindless number of straps, shako cords, pompons, buttons, braid, swords, bayonet frogs, and other bits of random flair that must be painted before even one recruit can join the ranks. This must cease forthwith!

From this point, all recruits will be clothed in a tunic, breeches, a soft, floppy hat with nice folds that take inks well and boots. The tunic and breeches can be any color from Green Ochre to Tan and need not match--even on the same soldier. The boots can be either black or brown--whatever is available in the paint rack. All equipment will be kept in a canvas haversack slung over the shoulder. When you need a greatcoat, you will be issued one--no need to carry that thing from Vilna to Smolensk.

Grenadiers will be distinguished by the fact that they are taller. In addition, no special insignia for each unit will be required--if you and your NCO can't figure out where you need to go, no amount of paint is going to help.

And, as a final note, the idiot who decided it was a great idea to put the number of each Jaeger regiment on the ammo pouch, thereby forcing normal, god-fearing humans to freehand numbers is now exploring our arctic possessions in a rowboat.

Victory through simplicity!

Time to get out of Napoleonics.

I recommend ACW.

LOL, That's both awesome and sadly true!

Have you considered uh-hum-----commands and colors? They are " pre-painted". Well- sort-of………….I'll have two sets of each, except Spanish, use Shako 1st, on a green table cloth. Dude. Works… Everyone thinks I'm daft. But I'll put three full infantry divisions into the field with cannon, cavalry brigades etc. Monopoly villages painted. An idea I've kicked around in my head so much there's scuff marks on the inside of my skull.

:-) Nah, just having a bad shako cords day! Problem I run into with my job is that Alpha basically takes me out of painting for a couple months, so when I go back to it, I'm really out of practice. Fortunately, now that I've gotten into plastics, I have a lot of extra heads to practice on.
