Not that Yesthatphil's June submission was anything less than spectacular, or that I could even think about winning against that level of quality, so qualifiers about what this post isn't out of the way …

What about a little more lead time on the contest announcements? Maybe like a two- or three-month lead, so announce in early July the contest that completes at the end of August or September?

A lot of people around here are good and quick. But a lot of them are busy and already have planned projects on the table, too.

I would second this suggestion. I was hoping to be able to take part in the contest, but there was just too much work related stress to sit down in the evening and craft away. A lead would be excellent, as one could plan ahead and start early with a project.

I think this is sensible … as an ancients lifer, I always have quite a few ancients projects pending so when an ancients project came up for June there was something I could bring forward and enjoy completing for the deadline.

I had also criticised the Editor's proposed way of selecting themes for being unlikely to generate ancients topics at all often: so I sort of felt fate had called my bluff (giving me even more motivation to deliver) …

But I think something like creating a Renaissance scenario within a month – well that sounds quite a tall order and I'll be impressed with anyone who can pull it off successfully.

Anyway, good luck to future participants and I'm sure any help or warnings the Editor can give will only likely improve the entries and enhance people's enjoyment of the contests.

Actually, I have a campaign of early 15th Century scenarios that I have been working on for months. So I am planning on working one to finish for July. But again, I have been researching and testing components of the campaign for a while, just haven't put this particular one down yet.
