Put this back on the table. I am looking at getting miniatures to do this on my Kallistra hex terrain, but will probably halve the size of the battlefield for practical reason (number of figures and available gaming space), so it will be a bit more representational, but the engine should still work OK. Interesting report and I can see the attraction of making the game with miniatures. I am now tempted to see if I can get your game on this side of the pond. |

Thanks. secondchancegames dot com have them in stock. Here is a direct link to Andy's page Link – link the Kallistra hexes are 4" (100mm) which would nicely take two of their 40mm wide bases side by side. Each base is 40 x 20 and can take two ranks of 4, so you effectively be getting units of 16 or you could double the depth and get units of 32 on 4 bases. The Kallistra website have some photo's of medieval games and you can see how good the 12mm figure looks – though I would not be able to game it on the size of table they use. I would be looking at trying to get the game onto a board say 12 hexes wide by 9 deep (something like the commands and colours grid, which I think is 13 hexes wide). |

Thanks, it's useful to know that Andy has it. I've had good service from him before. |

Ordered a copy of of your game. I would love to see a version that fits on a 9 x 13 hex mat, since I have one that's currently going unused and a bunch of 15mm Saxons and Normans, some Vikings too. |

Hmm, Norm, how about a game of Manzikert? It's only 5 years later. |

Hi, thanks very much for supporting the game. In this edition, the rules have been split into series and module rules, which sets things up for further designs – something I think about from time to time, but never quite enough to give the required push. At the outset, I envisioned a quad of some quite different games. I didn't do Gate Fulford (last of the 1066 trio) as I didn't feel it offered anything really different from Stamford, but I did fancy a Crusades game because it would allow the systems cavalry rules to be used to their full, in a way that neither Hastings or Stamford games do. I was looking at something around AD 600 to round out a quad. I would love to hear what you manage with figures on a small grid, as I know my own situation (the painting table) means that a figures 1066 game is at least 12 months away for me. In Hastings, that slope is a tough grind for the Normans, my only advice is never throw the game, play it through to the end, because the cracks generally happen towards the last four turns as increasingly one or both armies will have sectors on the battlefield that rout. Play the game 2 or 3 times before passing judgement, it takes that to better appreciate how to use the Norman army. Any questions, post to BoardGameGeek – I have an alert there, so I can answer questions ASAP – link link Again, thanks for buying the game – norm. |
