I got to play my first game of the new-ish rules Clash on the Fringe and had a fun time. The game has an 80s-sci-fi feel that is quite enjoyable, and reminded me of playing 2nd edition 40k. Some pics here and more at my blog, plus a write up of the game: link

A truly alien battlefield. Got the "Rogue Trader" feel perfectly!

Next time, you should get a wandering monster on the field :-)

I read that reactive fire only succeeds 1/10 of the time. How does that work? Does it depend on the firer at all?

While I could see limiting this to not be too defensive, and not having read the rules, it feels overly done. The reviewer suggested it could be house ruled--would it affect other rules?

Maybe it isn't so bad, since I don't know the details. What can you say that isn't giving away the rules?

thanks

Andy,

My first take was like yours--but in the game, it works well. There's a 1/10 chance of a hit and a 1/10 chance of a suppression. Some weapons also have better chances. It is largely independent of the shooters'/targets' abilities.

I've played a few more games since and found reaction fire to be significant wnough that it can't be ignored, but not so dominant as to dissuade movement, attacking, and heroic activity.
