"Following a raid by Indian special forces into Myanmar early this month, increasing attention has been given to the prospect that India might use similar means against Pakistan to pressure it to end support for anti-Indian militant groups. India's on-going military modernization and headline-grabbing increases in defense spending have already raised concerns that it threatens to upset the delicate conventional military balance in the region and make military action a more attractive prospect for New Delhi. Taken at face value, there appears to be some validity to this line of thinking. Indian defense spending has doubled in real terms since 1997, growing at an average of 6.3 percent per year. The Modi announced a further 11 percent hike, raising the 2015–2016 military budget to $39.8 USD billion. Moreover, India is presently the world's largest buyer of conventional weapons, with upwards of $100 USD billion expected to be spent on modernizing its defense forces over the next decade…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

Yea, conventionally, they can crush Pakistan, until someone decides to open a can of "instant sunshine". Not sure Pakistan would do that, but I guess if you get desperate enough, anything is possible. |

Sure, you beat Pakistan. But then you have on more region of crazy insurgents to deal with. There might be a long term benefit, such as denying the Taliban a safe haven, but does India really want to occupy a lawless Pakistan for years? |

Always remember, the HEIC was "thrilled" to allow the Kingdom of Lahore control the NWF before the Sikh Wars and would have been happier had the wars never occurred (or occurred later under their own terms and conditions). While the HEIC/British government became past masters of controlling the NWF, they were thrilled to be relieved of that responsibility and I'm sure India always considers the "burden" of having to control/occupy Pakistan and it's internal problems if war did come and they somehow ended up with Pakistan as the "prize". |

Salman Rushdie in Midnight's Children or possibly The Satanic Verses opines not, on the grounds that Pakistani Moslems are good at fighting because motivated by the prospect of Houris, whereas Indian Hindus are not, on account of the prospect of reincarnation as a cockroach. There are, of course, the Sikhs, and it's a Sikh suicide bomber who brings down the hero's plane in The Satanic Verses. |

Indian Hindus are not, on account of the prospect of reincarnation as a cockroach. I believe the concept of Kshatriya for the military class is still in effect. No need to worry about reincarnating as a cockroach. |
