Gents,

I have recently moved to the Lincoln area and looking to join a local club. My interests lie primarily in Napoleonics and WW2 but I'm open to other periods.

My google-fu has found a few clubs in the area but none of the websites seems to have been updated after 2012. I was wondering if anyone knew of active clubs?

I get on very well with the guys at Lincoln LMWS … they are certainly still active though I have no idea whether their website is up to date …

Good luck

Phil

RAF Waddington wargames club have always been a good bunch and are still active. I was a member when stationed there in 1990! Sorry I don't have any contact details, but there was a recent thread about them here on TMP, if you want to look.

And no, you don't have to be a member of the RAF to join.

Don't know how far you are prepared to travel, but there is an excellent club in Grimsby. It's about an hour. I regularly travel a similar distance from my home in the Welsh borders to my club in Kidderminster.

There's one that meets in the Con Club in Boston but I think apart from a few the majority are into Warhammer and 40k. I thought there was one in Gainsborough that was on the FoW website but not sure.

If into 6mm, might be able to find gamers at Joy of Six in Sheffield 19/7

Clubs seem to forget that without at least a monthly post to their website people are inclined to think they have ceased to function. We need to encourage clubs to make regular updates, even if only very brief ones.

Depends on whether they want new members hagen.

LMWS in Lincoln are very much still active. The website doesn't get updated often to be fair as the members make use of the Yahoo group. Every Monday evening around 1930ish (except Bank holidays) in the Golden Eagle Pub at the South park end of the High street. £1.00 GBP a night Membership and access to all sorts of Ales and Beers.

Are you still looking for clubs in Lincoln area, Irregular, of was that a 'fire & forget' question?

RAF Waddington Wargames Club remains active and accessible to civilian personnel when escorted onto camp and across the taxiway by a full member. The club meets in the old traffic control tower (hence requirement to cross the taxiway), which is one of the best locations for wargaming I've seen. There are 3 tables downstairs and additional playing space within the observation area itself. Current contact details for the club are here: link

Sorry for the late reply! House move is keeping me occupied! Thank you for all the up to date info, I will certainly have a look at waddington and LMWS. A lot to be said for a club in a pub.

@Volleyfire I'm not sure why clubs would not want new members? Surely otherwise the clubs will wither and die.

I was filmed for an RAF driving safety video in one of those downstairs rooms :)

That was what I was getting at Irregular. It was a small barb about a Lincs club I used to belong to that operated with that self same thought, at least those that 'ran' it did, even though I pointed out what would happen, and now I believe it doesn't have enough members to be able to call itself a 'club'. At what level does a club cease to be a 'club', 2 members or 3? A self fulfilling idea on their part I'd say. If you don't advertise and keep attracting new members the club will wither and possibly die, and the hobby will probably shrink, rather than sustain itself accordingly.
