This is an Athenian army I bought from Steve Jones and rebased (from single 20mm WAB stands to huge 180mm wide stands) for "To the Strongest!". Steve is a superb painter and I'll show some close-ups later this week.

There's more about them on the blog:-

Looks very nice! What size units and basing is the norm for "Too the Strongest!"?

Hi Noss, it is very much up to the player.

In 28mm I have a big table and mostly play using 18cm wide units, but most people use 12cm wide units on a 6' by 4' table. This is a really convenient table size for quick games in an evening or at a tournament, and it doesn't require as many minis.

In 15mm or smaller mini sizes, one can have units with more minis or play on a smaller table.

Best, Simon

Thanks Harry- they look almost like 6mm from a distance! ;-)

Full props for hand painted shields! It all looks fabulous.

Proper close ups over the next few days. Decorative borders on tunics, even!

Very nice – but you need a bunch more of those hoplites!

Yes… it's not easy to find really nicely painted hoplites, and even less easy to paint the blighters oneself!

Luckily I already have three units, the above is the fourth and I have enough minis to base a fifth up when I have time.

The masses psiloi look very good Simon – I do like the larger bases for skirmishers, will be using 160x40 for Hail Caesar.

Have yet more hoplites to do – may send them away for painting if my speed does not improve!

Hi Garry,

Greek hoplites (except Spartans*) are right up there with Celts in terms of minis I hate to paint. All the different colours, the shield designs, crests…

Best Simon

*The Spartans, on the other hand, designed their kit for the speed painters of the future- typical Lacedonian efficiency.
