Hi,

I've been working on the following diorama (of sorts) and terrain piece. It's based on the Battle of Maiwand during the Second Afghan War. Basically the piece is mean't to double as a terrain piece and a diorama of sorts for entry into a painting comp.

You can see more pics other than the couple below and rad all about the inner workings of my mind on my Shooting Leave Blog Here:

Thanks for looking,
Darrell.

Darrell,

Excellent job on the figures and the rocky terrain!

One question: did you paint the puttees dark brown or dark blue? Officers of the 66th are said to have worn blue while the rank and file wore brown. Either way my only criticism of your beautiful paint job is that IMHO the puttees seem a bit monochromatic, a bit too solidly dark, as opposed to at least slightly worn and dulled down with even a hint of dust or dirt or fading, but to each his own.

I'd still be very happy to have them desperately fighting Ayub Khan's minions atop my Maiwand terrain!

By the way: I love your mountain backdrop! I'm trying to get my budding artist daughter (who has some talent) to paint one like that for me. I believe you are an artist yourself so I have to ask: did you paint your own…?

Ah, I took the uniform info from an old copy of Military Modeller that was sent to me so I just painted what was in front of me- they all have dark blue puttees….. but not in the next unit!! :>)

Yeah, that's actually the effect that I was looking for as the uniforms are very light and I wanted a nice contrast. Still, I'm happy to accept criticism so thanks for your input once more MG :>)
