Are these only for those familiar with the rules or will any be available for those who have an interest but have never played/read them?

nazrat30 Jun 2015 7:43 a.m. PST

As I understand it, the walk-up games are learning scenarios. Bt honestly, my big Holding Carentan game runs fine with newbies OR experienced players. Almost all my play tests were with 2/3 gamers new to the rules. They are great and easy-peasy to pick up!

nazrat30 Jun 2015 7:50 a.m. PST

Oh, and here are a few pictures of my board…

M1Fanboy30 Jun 2015 9:15 a.m. PST

I can say that newbies and experienced players will both be welcome at my table for End of an Iron Dream! I promise, thrills, chills, Volksturm, cast of thousands (Ok, dozens, but LOTS of T-34s)

The Demo events are definitely for newbies---we'll match you up so you can learn and have fun. For experienced players, too!

Very nice terrain.

Enjoy the games.

nazrat30 Jun 2015 10:05 a.m. PST

Marc-- I allowed for 4 players in my game, but I will slot in at least two more, I think. It is a staged entry type of game, so it starts with just a platoon a side and builds up to a full company of Germans and US with loads of tanks (and it's historically accurate, too!). So the added players will get stuff several turns in.

iPaint30 Jun 2015 10:23 a.m. PST

I'll be running 6 1-hour long demo sessions split between Friday and Saturday evenings for those interested in learning the basics of the rules for infantry and tank combat.

If you've signed up that's great, or if you want to just drop in or watch that's fine too.

Please come folks, I am putting my all into this. I think the table is going to look great, I am STILL painting buildings, but don't worry, all will be done in time!

pzivh43 Supporting Member of TMP30 Jun 2015 11:20 a.m. PST

Jason,

I have a few buildings you can use, too!

Mike

nazrat30 Jun 2015 11:36 a.m. PST

You and me both, M1! I am flocking paratroopers even as we speak. Almost there, though!!

M1Fanboy30 Jun 2015 11:54 a.m. PST

Mike,
Bring what you can. I have a Gamecraft 20mm factory (it's a hollow affair, but if I put some kitty litter down, along with some rubble, it will look fine), a JR miniatures German govt building, some rubble buildings I have made myself and some other stuff I got on the guild a while back, a barricade from MKP along with a bombed out building, and a Gamecraft Barracks building (gotta build that), I might also bring a building that while it's more suited to the US, looks great as a fortified building….

M1Fanboy30 Jun 2015 11:57 a.m. PST

My demo will be US versus Germans. I have what I need for that, just have to do some fast paint on some American infantry, as well as work up a trio of PSC Stuarts. Other than that, we are SO ready for this! I am beyond excited…

Gentlemen, 10 T-34s on a table, in an urban fight…can we say carnage?

historygamer30 Jun 2015 4:05 p.m. PST

Hey Nazrat. Nice looking game table. :-)

nazrat01 Jul 2015 4:22 a.m. PST

Thanks, Jim.

Grignotage01 Jul 2015 6:17 a.m. PST

Sorry I'm going to miss it. I'm hoping for Historicon 2016…

I do have a box of terrain I'm contributing to the cause---it'll be in the mail soon!

RetroBoom01 Jul 2015 11:26 a.m. PST

I'd really like to get into 1 or 2 of the demo games, really want to learn. How can I pre-register?

pzivh43 Supporting Member of TMP01 Jul 2015 5:37 p.m. PST

Cheesesailir77,

I think prereg is closed. So you will have to grab a ticket for the event. Or you can drop by and we'll do our best to fit you in!

Mike

iPaint01 Jul 2015 6:33 p.m. PST

My last two things to paint for the demo game, a White Scout Car and a Maxim MMG team.

Then just need to base a BA-6 and things will be ready.

Great table Jerry, looking forward to my yearly highlight that is HCon.

Millercop1605 Jul 2015 3:52 a.m. PST

Jerry,

The table is a work of art as usual you should leave it up on display all weekend long! Include some type of a handout on the history behind the battle. Guys like you are a credit to our little community. Look forward to seeing you and your game in a few weeks.

I thought I would share a little info on the scenarios I will be running, which are part of the events listed at the top of this thread.

I will have four scenarios set up. All are designed for 1 on 1 play, are based on historical actions and have been play tested for balance. Each scenario takes two to two and half hours to play. They are new player friendly, but at the same time they are very tactically challenging for those experienced with the system. I hope you try them all.

The scenarios are:

INFANTRY CLASH AT LOKACHI – Lokachi, Russia, June 22, 1941. Having broken through the Russian defenses, the Recon elements of the German 299th Infantry Division raced eastward running into dug in Russian infantry determined to hold at the village Lokachi on the Voinytsysa River.

COUNTER ATTACK ON THE BEREZINA – East of Berezina River, Russia, July 3, 1941. Having taken the bridge over the Berezina River in a coup de main on June 30th, the German 18th Panzer Division was working to expand its bridgehead eastwards when it was counterattacked by the elite 1st Moscow Motorized Division, a powerful armored force equipped with T-34's, KV's and the latest model BT-7's.

WRONG TURN IN MOEN – Moen, France, June 28, 1944. After spending the night screening the left flank of the British advance, the 3rd Monmouthshire Regiment began the morning of June 28th attempting to move to the south and west to rejoin the brigade. Becoming disoriented in the narrow, hedge lined lanes, C company ended up moving east into the village of Moen. This placed them directly in the path of the counterattacking Kampfgruppe Frey, which was made up of mixed units from the Leibstrandarte and 21st Panzer Divisions. A confused maelstrom of combat ensued, which was soon joined by elements of the 10th Highlanders as well as Shermans from the 3rd County of London Yeomanry and Churchills of the 7th Royal Tank Regiment.

MAYHEM AT MARTINVILLE – Martinville, France, July 16, 1944. For several days the U.S. 29th Division had been attacking the German positions on the western slopes of Martinville Ridge, just northeast of St. Lo. Elements of the 3rd Fallshirmjager Division had been defending tenaciously and in the afternoon of July 16th they launched a local counter attack through the hedgerows against elements of the 116th Regiment in an effort to throw back the Americans and disrupt their advance.

Kakoen,

Once played… Fancy sharing the scenarios for us to put in the next issue of Dispatches???

Kakoen07 Jul 2015 5:32 a.m. PST

Piers

I would be happy to share them.

My thanks to all who had a hand in this. I got to play in one of the learning scenarios(counter attack on the Berezina), along with a friend of mine, on friday. My thanks to Michael for his patience and running us through the rules, great GM! Also thanks to Thomas who was the third player in the game and who had played before. Terrific help.

Nazrat. I did come to your game and enjoyed watching it. You had a full table and I showed up a bit later than I wanted to. May have to catch you at a future show.

And to make it extra sweet got a near mint copy of Kursk at the flea market for $25 USD!

iPaint20 Jul 2015 1:21 p.m. PST

I have an assortment of pics from my Battlegroup demos here on my blog: link

I'll be getting the rest of my pics posted soon, probably this evening.

A lot of people stopped by the Battlegroup area, and it was great seeing everyone enjoy themselves. We had seven tables setup at once, and I think at one point I saw 4 games going on simultaneously.

Hope everyone who attended Historicon had fun, and if they have any questions feel free to seek any of the GMs out here or over on The Guild (it's the official "unofficial" forum for Battlegroup and 20mm WW2 gaming in general)!

I have found my go-to con game! It's so easy to teach and gives such a fast, fun cool looking game for conventions.

iPaint22 Jul 2015 2:30 p.m. PST

Agreed…I'm already wishing I'd have put magnets under all of my PSC tank engine decks, to allow for removable riders and stowage as needed…
