I'm scoping out the names I know: Kallistra Pendraken Magister Militum Eureka Copplestone What else am I missing? My question to you, however, is besides the size variance (I laughed out loud when I put my Copplestone rangers next to the Eureka Wood Elves), do you have a favorite when it comes to mold quality, scults, variety? It seems that MM and Eureka have really dynamic poses, while Pendraken and Kalistra seem to be more static (maybe a bit too much of a broad statement, but in general). MM seems to be really crisp, while Pendraken seems a bit "muddied" (and I cant stand their bows – they look like sticks). Who is your go to? I'm working on Warmaster proxies that will also be used for Mayhem. Thanks! |

My favorite were the original Games Workshop Warmaster figures. I think their sculpts were beautiful, and the strip style made painting a lot easier. Unfortunately, the secondary marked prices are making them prohibitive now. My seconds choice would be Eureka. I think they have beautiful detailed sculpts. But their ranges are limited. My third is Pendraken, simply for extensive range and ease of access though the Wars tore. |

I do like the strips. As Dave says above the new Rebel Mini 10s are very nice. I will be buying a number of those at Historicon. The Copplestone figures are good too and of course the GW Warmaster figures are excellent. |

MM wins hands down for variety. I'm also impressed with Newline Design's ancient range. Really nice clean sculpting. |

Copplestone. Look great, are easy to paint, and mix well with my GW plastic Bo5As. And the LotR look he has is spot on. I also like that he does strips (though I wish he had a few "crammed in" strips like GW, with 6 or 7 on a strip, rather than the separate cut-a-parts of 5 or 6. But that's a nit.) Kallista are fine for orcs, because the size doesn't matter that much, and the slightly rougher detail is perfectly good for the ugly beasts. I mix them with both Bo5A (as orcs, not goblins) and GW's orcs (as weaker orcs). I've not been impressed with the painted pics of their human/elves, and while I like the dwarf gyrocopters (which mix fine with GW ground dwarves), their infantry dwarves are too big. Heck, they're the same size as the humans. Somebody didn't get the concept of "dwarf" on that one. I have Eureka wood trolls (as ents), which are nice sculpts, and the scale doesn't matter (they're walking trees…). The other stuff looks good, if a little repitious. Plus I suspect they're individuals rather than strips. I'd love to see MM figs in person. They;re on my list to supply potential allies for Sauron (Southrons and Far Harad, which could have exotic looks). But that's a long way away right now. I still have a boatload of GWs to paint. They're the most detailed… but maybe just a little bit too detailed (squints while painting). |

Pendraken, scratching my Colonials itch at a sensible cost. I think you'll find the resculpted fantasy & historicals are much better than the old ones that used small trees for lances. I will also get some Little Wars FFL & Tuareg sets when time & finances allow. For true 10mm figures take a look at The Baggage Train |

Due to the age of some of them (nearly 20 years now!), some of our Fantasy figures can be a little hit and miss. The Orcs, Ratmen and regular Dwarves are all old sculpts and don't match up too well to some of the other races. The new Warband figures however are some of our best, with a 25 figure pack containing 25 different figures, a level of variety I don't think has been attempted in this scale before. We've added loads of new sculpts as well, including command, wizards, mammoths, etc. A lot of the bows have been fixed as well…!
And some bare metal pics:

I wrote an article on my blog about this subject back in 2014 for 10mm LOTR. link Copplestone Castings – Probably the best 10mm line of LOTR like figures on the market today. They have a huge selection of Orcs, Humans and now Dwarfs. Magister Militum – Carries an array of 10mm fantasy figures. Their greater orcs seems to fit in nicely with Copplestones. Eureka Miniatures USA or Eureka Miniatures Australia – Eureka Miniatures produces the best 10mm Mammupach, with howdah going. It is simply awesome. There hobbits show a lot of promise, but their elves and humans are much smaller than Copplestones. Tajima1 Miniatures – Makes a set of very cool 10mm Fantasy – Evil men of the East. These would fit nicely in with the Eureak Mammupach. Based on what I am seeing Pendraken's Warband look really legit. GW's High Elf Swordsmen and various other warmaster figures are always nice. The prices for these have skyrocketed, but sometimes you can find good deals. |

Good review on Warband. I actually had NO IDEA it was a Warmaster-level game; given the name, I thought it was skirmish :) Still, I tend to lean on Mayhem, but I'll look through some of the recommended manufacturers here, and of course will check out the Pendraken Warband models. A lot of my proxy musings can be found on my blog at kealios.blogspot.com. |
