I have many figures I painted about 10 years ago when I first started using "the dip." Back then, I used minwax polyshades and actually physically dipped the figures. As a consequence, I have several I would like to strip back down to bare metal and repaint.

These days, I much more sensibly use Army painter dip, brushed on.

Is there anyway to strip that stuff? I have tried soaking a figure for 24 hours in mineral spirits and no dice, is it impossible?

Thanks!

Try Citistrip – I have swapped over years ago – it will take it down to the metal in minutes, however, I usually let it go over night. non-toxic and safe to use indoors.

It will melt some plactics.

Plastic is problematic. It comes in a plastic container and I do individual figures in soft plastic medicine cups. That said, I recently melted a hard plastic Anti-Tank gun.

I used to be a big time stripper. grin
Then I decided it was too much bother and I would be better off, and it would be cheaper to just buy new figures.

I put 10 figures into a zip lock plastic sandwich baggie. Spray "Klean Strip" (Ace Hardware) and seal the bag. 10 minutes later I rinse them with water and do a wee bit of scrubbing with a nylon brush. Whalla! Sparkling raw figures.

Wear rubber gloves… or burn!

Ok, going away for the weekend, but when I get back I will try some of the suggestions. These are metal GW Praetorian figures that I use for VSF, so they should not melt (I hope!!!)

I will report back here with the results, thanks!

Laquer thinner or acetone. link

It will strip the hide from a carcass. Glass mason jar will hold this stuff. Proper ventilation is a must. Age 18 required to purchase at many stores now-a-days. Old tooth brush may help. Thick chemical resistant gloves will help. link
