There was, at least a couple of years ago, a fairly active WC-fan community. Someone even knocked out at fan board game (in pdf) along with the more expected mods for the various games. So clearly a bit of a potential market and I would have thought the IP owners might well be interested leveraging some cash from a license. The only version I played was Prophecy and I really liked the ship designs – but I suspect others may well prefer the earlier stuff and there's quite a bit stylistic jump there IIRC. Dunno if it would sucker me into X-Wing though… |

Not really, since the human fighters were so ugly. |

I'm in. And I love the human fighters… just not the movie ones! |

You mean a game where you're using Wing Commander models and the XWing rules? I might be game for that, I really liked the 1980s and 1990s Wing Commander games. Movie wasn't all that interesting. |

Yessss and a version for Battlestar Galactica as well!!!! |
nazrat | 24 Jun 2015 5:59 a.m. PST |
Nope. Much as I loved that video game I see no reason to buy more models to play a game I already own and like just fine with the current ships. |

Wing Commander boardgame – yes (esp with a bit higher level – planning missions, deciding on pilots etc); XWing – no. |

The fighters are around in metal (Studio Bergstrom) or via Shapeways, plus some Silent Death stuff works. There are also fleet scale versions from Shapeways. So you'd just need to stat them up for X-Wing or the fighter rules of your choice and you'd be good to go. |

Just to answer on the official game-from-FFG, if anyone's thinking in that line. My answer when someone suggested a Guardians of the Galaxy version on the Spaceship board: If there were enough different ships, perhaps a spin off game which could be compatible. I don't think there were enough ships, though plenty of different identifiable color schemes to make it not impossible. A few ships to throw in with the X-Wing, definitely not, and as the movie is already out, a bit after-the-fact. -Now, would you pay $15 USD per ship? Probably in a heartbeat. Would you pay $40 USD to $60 USD for a couple/three ships in a new starter box…? Doug Edit: Fan-written rules? Sign me up! ;->= |
