Just got my hands on some samples of this new range.

OUTSTANDING was my response on opening the package!

They really have found a way to produce figures which are right up there with the very best. There is a very clever combination of crisp sculpting, superb attention to detail and realistic animation. I confess I have been drawn into Ancient wargaming simply because of their Persians, and now I shall have to return to WWII to supplement my forces just because the new figures are so good.

I particularly like the way they are providing all the heavy support weapons right from the start. I had to convert most of mine – now I will be able to replace them with these greatly superior ones. That they have reproduced the complex MG tripods for the Germans is extraordinary. And I didn't think there could be any new way to do a German officer without being cliched with so many having been done – but they have produced another great figure.

For the Americans the inclusion of the Adrian helmets for Free French is a master-stroke – I have just done some early-war French from AIP WWI figures, and will now be able to add later-war ones too. Especially love a cigar-chomping BAR man.

They look nice, but the German figures have too many guys looking through binoculars.

45th!

I think the arms are separate and posable (to a point) and the photographer has simply got several basic poses with the binocular arms in use.

These do look top notch, and the presence of the variety of support weapons make these more or less perfect for war games, especially of the skirmish variety.

Well spotted, Mike!

I like the classic Airfix German Officer figure pose.

Oh wow – these are great – was only aware of their 40mm painted stuff!

Is it me or do the French helmets with netting look a little Japanese?

dBerczerk23 Jun 2015 7:14 a.m. PST

The use of helmet camouflage netting by Imperial Japanese forces was the primary reason U.S. forces abandoned its use in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

Too easy to mistake friend for foe.

How do the 54mm Expeditionary ACW figures match up with Marx 54mm figures. Even the largest Marx Blue and Gray sets lack Confederate artillery crews. There is one Rebel guy running with a swab in the later sets, but that's all. The Expeditionary figures look pretty good with a nice "flat" gray color and lack of gloss. It looks like they would go well with Marx figures, but I have yet to see a comparison photo. Can anybody give us some info here?

Thompson SMG's look a little over-sized….

dBerczerk25 Jun 2015 3:14 p.m. PST

I have the Expeditionary Force Union cavalry and dismounted troopers sets. The figures are "small" 54mm -- a bit small compared with Toy Soldiers of San Diego ACW figures.

The EP figures look like they would match up quite well with the Marx ACW figures from their Blue and the Gray playsets.

dBerczerk

I have some of TSSD and Conte ACW figures and IMO they are too large to be used with Marx in any great numbers. I use the flag bearers and unit commanders because they look better than the Marx versions, but that's all.

Thanks for the info on the EF figures. I could almost tell from the photos that they would be Marx like in sculpt, stature and size, but I wanted another opinion before buying the rebel artillery set.

I cannot resist one comment – it never ceases to amaze me what some people find to complain about whenever a new set of figures comes out. There are two absolutely classic ones in this thread which gave me a chuckle but made me groan too.

Personally I am just so damn glad that a maker is managing to survive in the current economic climate and produce new sets!

I was just about to post a News Flash on new sets from this maker…but wait while I check the width of lapels and trouser side seam stripe in case they are too wide/narrow. ;-)

These look nice. Has anyone actually bought any in the UK

And are they really $29 USD for 9 figures?
