"The Senate on Tuesday blocked an amendment that would have allowed the Obama administration to send direct aid to Kurdish peshmerga forces in Iraq.

Senators voted 54-45 on the amendment, from Sens. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA.) The amendment faced a 60-vote threshold to be attached to the defense policy bill.

The proposal would have granted a temporary authorization for President Obama to give weapons and training directly to the Kurdish forces rather than having to work through the Iraqi government in Baghdad…"

Sounds like they need a Kickstarter, or Go Fund Me campaign.

There are a lot more support to fund forces that would turn tail and run than to help those that are actually effective.

Of course they voted against it. It makes too much sense.

Likely many are afraid of offending Turkish sensibilities.

Was curious to know who voted against it. Now I know. The comments under the storyline were interesting. Some people cannot let the past go. Some comments I could not verify.

True. The fiction that there's still a viable central government in Iraq that should be the only legitimate representative of the "country" is an illusion some lawmakers simply cannot disabuse themselves of.

You guys nailed it … They don't want to upset the Turks and offend what passes for an Iraqi Gov't … which appears, it couldn't be more worthless. In the fight against Daesh, the Turks are just as useless as the Iraqi leadership. But I understand the Turks are getting cheap bootlegged oil from Daesh. And of course the Turks are allies and members of NATO. Some allies !! Like the Saudis, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I heard they were supplying the Taliban currently … Great ally … right ?!?
