Used to be Silent Death, but X-Wing has won me over.

Covert Walrus17 Jun 2015 9:03 p.m. PST

TacShip by Jon Tuffley.

mandt217 Jun 2015 10:06 p.m. PST

X-Wing

The rules don't get in the way of the fun, the minis are unequaled, and the universe is so entrenched in our psyches as to be real.

Toaster17 Jun 2015 10:54 p.m. PST

Tac Ship, but I'm keen to give 5150 Fighter Command a go when I find the spare budget for it.

X-wing

5150 Fighter Command from Two Hour Games which also has a great expansion with two campaigns as well as new rules for capships.

Then continue as you are "promoted" to 5150 Carrier Command followed by 5150 Star Navy.

Only Warlock18 Jun 2015 3:43 a.m. PST

5150 FC. Clearly.

MacrossMartin18 Jun 2015 4:35 a.m. PST

X-Wing miniatures game.

Dynaman878918 Jun 2015 10:04 a.m. PST

I'm old, the FASA rules for Battlestar Galactica for me.

Feet up now18 Jun 2015 11:03 a.m. PST

A vote for Silent death everything in one box. No "waves" or extras needed really.
X- wing is pretty good .

Mako1118 Jun 2015 11:20 a.m. PST

Hard Vacuum used to always receive a vote or two, back in the day.

Never played it myself.

Ivan DBA18 Jun 2015 11:38 a.m. PST

X-wing.

Sadly, nobody remembers FASA's old Interceptor system…dang good for its day. It had this interesting damage low chart for hits that got past armor/shield, and you could get a one-shot kill if you punched the armor on the right place.

Stogie18 Jun 2015 1:16 p.m. PST

Well I have Interceptor (as well as Centurion, Leviathan and Prefect. Traded Epic for Centurion and got the others), but I still have to say the best star fighter rules are Silent Death, which just so happens to be the first game I ever purchased.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP18 Jun 2015 1:52 p.m. PST

I admire Interceptor, and Crimson Skies, the Original, which shared much with it, but I never really felt it.

Always found FASA's BSG a hoot, though the damage tracks could be a BIT fiddly.

Tacship is brill, but I REALLY like using Full Thrust for fighters.

Sudwind18 Jun 2015 2:28 p.m. PST

X-Wing. Fun mixed with the lure of Star Wars and some opportunity for strategy.

Howler18 Jun 2015 7:15 p.m. PST

Silent Death followed by X-Wing

D for Dubious19 Jun 2015 2:08 a.m. PST

Silent Death, so many fond memories.

Coelacanth19 Jun 2015 7:31 a.m. PST

I liked some aspects of FASA's Aerotech, but ultimately found Silent Death more fun for fighter-only games.

Er…X-Wing!

WarpSpeed19 Jun 2015 3:54 p.m. PST

I like X-wing but I prefer to not use the special character ability and upgrade cards, just fly the basic craft.Playing with squadrons of heroes with tweaked gear is to much like WH40k war gear duels.

Ghecko19 Jun 2015 7:47 p.m. PST

Many years ago I played a lot of WW1 naval. I recently had some games of X-Wing. Apart from the models, I see very little difference. Both are two dimensional; both use turn circles, firing arcs, armour (shields), torpedoes, guns (sorry, lasers), have collisions (and how in vast 3D space???), mines, comms between ships, "gun directors" of sorts, etc, etc. Clearly, X-Wing is nothing new; it's just WW1 naval combat with different models.

kidbananas20 Jun 2015 6:15 p.m. PST

Silent Death & X-Wing

Lion in the Stars21 Jun 2015 6:57 p.m. PST

FASA's old Interceptor game, closely followed by DP9's Jovian Chronicles.

John Treadaway22 Jun 2015 3:16 a.m. PST

Silent Death

What??? No love for Renegade Legion: Interceptor????

A miasma of flow charts and missed opportunities, as I recall grin

SteveUK22 Jun 2015 12:18 p.m. PST

Another vote for Silent Death

AdAstraGames22 Jun 2015 5:17 p.m. PST

X-Wing, and Squadron Strike conversions of X-Wing ships, which answers much of TJRaymond's objections.

Lion in the Stars22 Jun 2015 6:55 p.m. PST

Oh, forgot to mention first edition Babylon 5 Wars. Not as chartsy-complicated as Interceptor, and gave the fighters a bit of life.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP23 Jun 2015 5:51 a.m. PST

…which answers much of TJRaymond's objections.

I simply don't answer the objections as they are damn thin. I've played some WWI naval, and he seems to have missed the point altogether.

Might as well say 'you use miniatures, so it's the same.'

Yeah, that SWars capital-ship combat really *is* WW1-Naval-in-space, just as much as SWars fighters are WW2-aircraft-in-space.

Rocky Russo was fond of mentioning that the guys at ILM back in the 1970s loved playing Mustangs and Messerschmidts, and that the computer movement controls for the Falcon explicitly used the A20's maneuverability charts.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian25 Jun 2015 11:35 a.m. PST

I thought the Falcon was maneuvering in a rather familiar fashion… evil grin

Nice to see there's still fondness for Silent Death in the community… we're doing our best to keep moving things forward to bring this classic game back to a presence in the FLGS network, perhaps even later this year of we're able.
