I am emigrating to the other side of the world at the end of September, with my wife who is a kiwi. Apparently I am told I will become a Jafa – "just another fabulous Aucklander" I believe.

So, what are the wargames clubs like in Auckland?

Naturally I am bringing all my toys over.

I play 15mm ancients (early Byzantines & Huns) & late medieval (HYW & WotR)
10mm League of Augsberg, ECW, Eastern renaissance (Indians, Persians, Turks, Venetians, Polish & Imperialists), WW2 (early war Brits, Germans & Russians) and AVBCW. I am also building various fantasy armies in 10mm.
6mm early Italian Wars
28mm skirmish, mainly dark ages but with various planned projects…

Cheers
Ian

Watch out for the Hobbits, and the Dwarves, and the, the Dragon.

Even if I could answer your question I wouldn't as I am sick with envy!

I envy you.

I'd love to move to NZ and work at WETA.

But I'm an American. It's damn near impossible for us to move anywhere, except Canada or Mexico.

Yeah, you got the "f" bit of Jafa wrong, but we'll forgive you.

Two main clubs in Auckland I believe, pretty sure someone from up there will be online soon to give you the full update.

But from my experience, all round great guys up there. Sure you will find plenty of opponents.

You will be welcomed I am sure. My experience of the guys in Auckland is that they are not bad chaps at all – despite being Jafas.

The two main club are the wonderful chaps at the North Shore Wargames Club nswc.org.nz and the equally agreeable Auckland Wargaming Club awc.wargaming.info Other clubs are around. Check out the links page on the NSWC site for contact details of other clubs in Auckland.

All other kiwis call us Jafas because they are just too jealous – Auckland is the land of milk and honey, Christchurch is broken and Wellington is too full of politicians.

I am a bit of a 10mm fan, is there much 10mm played in NZ?

Not much 10mm stuff going on unfortunately. Mostly 15mm and 28mm. But you never know, you could start a whole new thing!

I'm a member of the AWC and there is a bit of 10mm love there – Malborough, WW1 and some other 19th century periods. One of the guys started on 10mm ww2 but I dont know where it got to.

Lots of 28mm ancients/renaissance as well. I'm a bit of a 6mm fan myself but we play lots of different rules/periods/scales (maybe too many :-)

Cheers

If I had the space and time (not to mention cash as well) I would have done the Italian Wars in 28mm, best scale for that period
