We marked the 71st anniversary of D-Day this month at Metropolitan wargamers in Brooklyn, NY with a 28mm refighting of Brecourt Manor from June 6, 1944. We used a scenario from Skirmish Campaigns, classic Battleground rules and figures from Artizan Designs, Black Tree Design and Warlord Games. Check out the blog for more pics and a brief AAR.

Nice AAR what type of mat are you using there. Are the Battleground rules like any other set? I have used Arc of Fire and have played Bolt Action, any comparisons?

Mat was purchased at a con by a club member -- I believe a homemade design painted on heavy felt. I've only played 28mm WWII using Battleground which I like a great deal for this scale and 20mm. It has lots of nuance for guys hitting the dirt, wounds, pinning, weapon jams, grenades, close combat, differing weapon effectiveness, variance in cover, etc.

Tough scenario for the Americans. Like your trenches.

I have used Arc of Fire and Battleground. I recommend you Stick with Arc of Fire but if you can find Battleground WWII would recommend playing a few games with it. You will, I think, then appreciate the design philosophy of Arc of Fire more. I would consider Battleground a more detailed set but have not noticed any loss or enjoyment with Arc of Fire. Really liked grenades in Battlegroup though. Both sets tell a good story as you game. The earlier scenario modules for Battleground are very, very good as well as the ones they had on the interwebs covering the Battle of the Bulge.
Really liked Battleground WWII when they came out, but have found Arc of Fire more satisfying and simpler to use and keep going back to it for small (squad etc) unit actions that other rule sets don't seem to capture as well.

Thanks -- will track down Arc of Fire

Probably find on ebay or convention used copies.
Not necessarily a replacement for other rule sets, but a very useful one that you will probably find yourself playing.
