$45 USD (40 EUR) to ship a standard blister of 2 minis from Germany to USA? Have the rates gone up THAT much?

Hmmm, I don't think so.

I just ordered 3 miniatures and a resin Artillery item and shipping was 3.50 Euros

And yes from Germany in a padded envelope.

Now I just ran an shipment from here to Germany for 5oz and it was $6.28 USD for a padded envelope and $12.33 USD for a box.

I think you may want to ask them to re-check that one, does not sound right.

It sounds very expensive but it may be that he is using a service that is tracked and insured (as supposedly required if you pay by PayPal) and they can come VERY expensive.

I think Gildas may have it. Paypal requires sellers to ship via a trackable method with signature, which usually means DHL or FedEx. Without that tracking, as a seller, you have NO recourse if a customer makes any kind of claim.

One reason sellers don't like Paypal….

I have had similar experiences with orders from Germany.

No, that's the cost of a courier shipment with proof of delivery.

Our prices to the EU run about the same, for that service as well.

Can't blame them, since otherwise Paypal finds in favor of the recipient, without proof of delivery.

To be fair, as mentioned, I've received shipments from Germany for about $7 USD – $10 USD in postage, so it is possible to get less expensive shipping.

Inquire with the seller about other shipping options, or don't do the deal.

If the weight is below 500gr. ask them for shipping using a Großbrief which is 3,45 Eur. If it is below 1000gr. ask for a Maxibrief which is 7,00 Eur. Both are airmail. If the seller wants tracked delivery (due to PayPal) they can make it signed for (Einschreiben) for an extra 2,15 Eur. So for two blisters you should be somewhere between ~ 5-10 Eur.

International shipping to the Europe, the USA, Canada, Newzealand and Australia is actually pretty cheap from Germany as long as it is below 2KG.
Odd thing is, it is even cheaper to send 4 pewter minis from Germany to Australia than to ship 3 A4 pages to another town in Germany 2kilometers away.
