Looks to me like the best way is to drill out the two (rivets?) at each end of the chassis… right?

That's what I've read.

Drill out, or Dremel them out (using a grinding tip).

Then re-seal with epoxy glue, when done.

Yep, that's the best way to do it. Grind or drill the rivets out.

You can also use a hammer and give it a big hit.

This is only useful if you are making battle damaged scenic items.
