Hi All,

Here are the first steps in my Ikko-Ikki Monastery, very loosely based on Torigoe Castle in Kaga Province, the scene of the Ikki last stand in 1582…

Thank you setsuko :-) Although doing this is not helping in the reduction of my plastic mountain!!!

Gone Fishing13 Jun 2015 7:55 a.m. PST

Absolutely beautiful. The Ikko-Ikki campaigns have always fascinated me, so I for one would love to see photos of any upcoming games!

@ Daryl, Many thanks, I think it will be a while before I can get enough figures painted to game with… I keep finding interesting architecture to make!! :-)

@ Cyrus, Thank you indeed :-)

Wow! Impressive, I would love to game around that.

That is really great work. You have captured the colour and solidity of these 'hill fort' castles perfectly. Too often I see Shiro depicted with white plaster walls, and golden dolphins, and while these were indeed used in many constructions, such were massively outnumbered by examples such as yours depicts.

10/10. Keep it going. Inspiring, and encouraging. My bushi might need to take a look at this, to get them enthusiastic about being painted.

Snake77714 Jun 2015 8:11 a.m. PST

Thank you Sturmpioneer, The Nigerian Lead Minister & MacrossMartin.

@ Macross, These are much easier to construct than the full on classical castles too :-) I've always thought that the more out-of-the-way yamashiro would be rather more weather-beaten and tatty than the 'show-case' ones :-D

Good luck with encouraging your Bushi!!!!

Of which I am envious ….

Excellent and realistic (from someone who lived in Japan for 15 years!)

Loved the neko-chan invader!

Usually, wargamers are sucked into a new period by someone's gorgeous line of figures, and then have to scramble looking for rules and terrain so they can get their shiny new army on the table.

A piece like this, though, could inspire someone to start shopping for rules and figures just so they could build a game around it.

Magnificent.

Snake77714 Jun 2015 2:47 p.m. PST

Many thanks John, Sisyphus & War Artisan, much appreciated :-)

@ Sisyphus… High praise indeed :-) Thank you, the neko-chan gets everywhere… at least her fur does!!!!

@ War Artisan… I'm kinda old school, grew up when there wasn't the vast choice of off-the-peg, straight-out-the-box products we have today, had to scratch build and convert everything and research our own rules… Thank you again :-)

Sir Mumsy15 Jun 2015 7:37 p.m. PST

Absolutely speechless… Beautiful!!! Snake777, thank you very much for sharing your work. I think I will have to play Ronin soon.

Snake77716 Jun 2015 10:59 a.m. PST

Thank you Sir Mumsy, glad you like them :-) These are for 20mm – 1/72 scale figures, so you could play 'Mini-Ronin' Here!!!
