Hello all.

Back in March I was working on adding some supplemental tiles to Citadel's Realm of Battle Board. I wanted to have at least a few feet of modular river sections that I could use for battles.

I had struggled with what color scheme I wanted to go with. Blue/white is so universally used, I decided instead to a more direct-looking natural route. After taking photos of local rivers near my house, I realized that even shallow rivers here don't really have any gradual deepening of color that you see in wargaming rivers so often. What I saw was that in normal daylight, the surface of the water was a very dark blue-black color with a slight tint of green. This is what I wanted to achieve.

I ended up using 2x2 gypsum panels which closely matched the height of the GW Citadel board. I used wall filler to shape the river banks and gave the whole tile a coat of green spray paint. The rest of the project was finished using cheap craft paints and static grass.

I used a mix of blue, black, green, and also a little gray to achieve the color of the water.

What really made the rivers come to life was using Mod Podge gloss picture sealer over the base coat of paint. I just dabbed it over the surfaces of the dry river beds in a wave-like pattern that followed the direction of the river channel, and the end result was pretty amazing. They look and feel like they have real depth to them, I'm really pleased with the results. Hope you like them!

I can't get in either.

It says I must use another Yahoo account since I can't use my own one. Strange.

Sorry about that guys. I just made all the photos public, hopefully that will make them viewable. I had them set to private by mistake. Let me know if it works.
