Had our second session today, and the party swelled from 5 to 9 (and the dungeon gained four new cells and the traditional (temporary) prisoners aka new party members). 9 teen novice players versus 1 nefarious necromancer, skeletons and zombies. They were hootin' and hollerin', as we say in these parts. The kids had a blast and so did I. They're all planning to come back next week for another grand adventure. A new crop of gamers is on the rise!

Good to hear you have managed to save some from tech dependant entertainment for a satisfying gaming session.
Well done for putting in the time and effort . Kids bring some amazing excitement and imagination to games when you encourage them well, sounds like you nailed it.

I had one 12 year old, a complete novice, with a rogue he named Dusty. All I told him were his abilities, no tactical advice. He comes to the first door and promptly states that he will try to hear a noise, then check for traps, then pick the lock. Sounded like a true veteran campaigner! Another kid immediately recognized that his Int 5 dwarf was "stupid" and had him just blunder ahead despite obvious dangers like a room full of coffins and a door with a giant skull on it. (And of course nothing bad ever happened to the "dumb" dwarf… Just to everyone else. evil grin

And 9 adventuring careers have been born. Reminds me of my first adventures. You have likely changed their lives forever… Congratulations!

I played AD&D with my three sons. Two of the three still play. My oldest, has four young children, so little time for gaming in his life, but I hope he will return to it, later, when his children get older. My sons have spent hundreds of hours on their X-box's, but they prefer sitting around the table, roleplaying with paper, and pencil, over their X-box any day of the week. Computers are good, but they cannot compete with a live DM, and a group of friends to adventure with, sitting at a table. Keep it up! Cheers!
