We all go through ups and downs in our hobby enthusiasm. On a scale of 0 (no enthusiasm) to 10 (mega-enthusiasm), how enthused are you about the hobby right now?

Great War Ace05 Jun 2015 4:32 p.m. PST

About a three. I'd be more enthused if anyone around me was actually interested in gaming at all….

53Punisher05 Jun 2015 4:37 p.m. PST

1 right now. Just not feeling it like I used to.

pzivh43 Supporting Member of TMP05 Jun 2015 4:37 p.m. PST

Definitely an 8 or so!

Shaun Travers05 Jun 2015 4:38 p.m. PST

At the beginning of the year I would have said 3. I am at 7 at the moment. It feels like a 9 on the inside; but as I am not actually playing any games, and not really pushing other stuff aside to find the time to play a game, I think a 7 is about right.

3 – I just have no time at the moment. And I'm knackered.

Weasel05 Jun 2015 4:50 p.m. PST

The hobby as a whole? 11, maybe a 12 on a strict 1-10 scale.
It's never been better.

For me personally? I don't know.. a 9? I get to make a living off doing something I like, for the first time in my life.

I'm about a 10. Got my package from Fernando. Lots of figures to base. grin

Rhysius Cambrensis05 Jun 2015 5:05 p.m. PST

10. Just received some Ion Age figures!

LesCM1905 Jun 2015 5:06 p.m. PST

I am usually obsessing about something, the other month it was painting, recently it has been making notes about ECW rules, so always 9 or 10 on some aspect or other but to the exclusion of all other facets.

8. I'm burned out and have 2 more battalions and 6 buildings to build before the end of the month. wink

7+ need a chance to set up and play

Axebreaker05 Jun 2015 5:30 p.m. PST

First couple months of the year about a 1 to 2 and now I'd put me on a solid 7 with the enthusiasm continuing to build.

8. I've got a couple of new projects starting up, and I'm off to Brookhurst Hobbies tomorrow.

Hlaven05 Jun 2015 5:43 p.m. PST

9+. The choices for everything have increased so much; it is hard for me personally to stay as focused as I used to be in completing projects.
I am 65 and have seen a lot of stuff over at least 30 years in the hobby.
I will never grow up.

Fonzie05 Jun 2015 5:47 p.m. PST

About a 3 right now. Five years or assembling, painting and basing many tens of thousands of figures for other people have taken the fun right out of it for me. I have a ton of personal projects lined up but I just can't motivate myself to get on with it. I'll get cracking again eventually, I guess I just need a sabbatical first. :-)

myxemail05 Jun 2015 6:04 p.m. PST

10. I am a few weeks in to my detox after attending Huzzah, and Havoc before that. I am still hyperventilating. I am focused on building some new scenery as well as additional table top play aids (smoke, flames, artillery blasts, etc).

Who knows, maybe even paint up some 28mm stuff to get the brushes moving too.

About 5, not getting revved up about painting right now

Sundance05 Jun 2015 6:05 p.m. PST

Comes and goes. Mostly positive, but there's one knucklehead who comes by our game nights and really, I can't stand him so much it affects my enjoyment of the game. I also haven't been motivated to paint for a LONG time. Slowly, it's coming around.

Last weekend, I was about a 10. With the news Wednesday of my wife's cancer possibly havibg returned in a very aggressive lymphatic form, right now I am about a 0. I have way more impiryant things to focus on right now.

Hanging at about a 5 right now….

Little War game elation has worn off; work is hitting me hard with new asset deployments, and I want to do my 15mm stuff but instead found myself fiddling with 28mm figs last time. Plus, instead of painting, I am doing "things" like organizing figures, arranging paint bottles, counting bases, etc…all of those little nickle and dime things you do when you just can't get the mojo to put paint on figures…..

nsolomon9905 Jun 2015 6:54 p.m. PST

Here we are just a scant few days before the 200th Anniversary of Waterloo so I'd have to say about a 10 right now. Scenery and troops all over my wargaming table in the library.

45thdiv05 Jun 2015 7:16 p.m. PST

My mind is at an 8, but school work and the work work, has my ability at a 1. So maybe I am at a 4.

Still like to see what is coming out and read thoughts on the hobby and conventions.

About 5-6. With the warmer weather I tend to do outdoor type things and haven't gotten into Garden Wargaming.

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP05 Jun 2015 8:48 p.m. PST

I'd say 8. I'm involved in the local convention scene, play with my group at least monthly, write enough scenarios and special rules and rules analyses to enjoy it without it becoming burdensome, enjoy seeing players work through my work, and enjoy playing other people's scenarios.

wrgmr105 Jun 2015 8:54 p.m. PST

Plenty of good people to game with, plenty of good and varied gaming around town.

The number would be higher but the stresses of work have a tendency to intrude on my down time.

Rich Bliss05 Jun 2015 9:38 p.m. PST

I'm sitting at an eight. Work is very busy, but I'm actually thinking about starting a club.

Tarleton05 Jun 2015 11:03 p.m. PST

10 today.

We're doing our play through of our 20mm VBCW demo game for Phalanx at St Helens on the 20th June. 3 players per side on a 8' x 6' table

Both sides orders and forces sorted, just got to finish laying out the table. I'll umpire and take notes and pics of the game so I can write a narrative for handouts at Phalanx and make half hourly moves.

By doing it this way, it means we're free at Phalanx to talk to interested people rather than being busy playing the game.

Mako1105 Jun 2015 11:45 p.m. PST

Hmmm, about a 3 or 4.

Would be higher if funds were available to complete some planned projects, so will just have to muddle through for a bit.

GildasFacit Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Jun 2015 2:45 a.m. PST

I'm in on Tarleton's game for Phalanx but I've got a ton of stuff to take over on the train so put me down as an 8 – I'll be back up to 10 once I've got there.

Still have to finish making some of the scenery for the game so it will be back to panic building mode from Monday.

Most of the time I'm up and down 5-9. My business is my hobby so sometimes my enthusiasm wanes if there is a deadline coming up for a paint job. The last stages of a job, which should be the best, always seem to pull my enthusiasm down for some strange reason.

Cosmic Reset06 Jun 2015 5:28 a.m. PST

Lake almost everyday, a 10.

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Jun 2015 5:40 a.m. PST

I tend to fluctuate from 12 to 15.

I can't be excited all the time. wink

I love it!

11 … Just been roping out the pitches for the big Naseby event next weekend … Link … Giving a talk on Waterloo at Kettering Art Gallery on Friday … and then off to Phalanx on the 19th for a full weekend of wargaming (show Saturday, big game Sunday).

So busy I need to relax by staying in this evening painting some soldiers with the Champions League final on in the background.

More a way of life than a hobby for me …

Usually, I'm at about a 6 or 7, but that generally bumps up to 9 as Historicon approaches.

I'm at about a 2 right now. For the first time in a few years, I'm actually trying to decide whether or not to go to Historicon (that would have been an automatic yes in recent years).

There is just too much stuff going on right now, both at work and at home.

punkrabbit, Sorry to hear about your wife. Thoughts and prayers (if appropriate) for your situation from a fellow war gamer. Hoping some reversal of her condition occurs.

As for my enthusiasm, it varies but right now it has been fluctuating between 7 and 9.

Paying friend to paint miniatures like 25mm pack horses and 15mm Portaball teams, replacing/selling of 25+mm stuff with 3/6/15mm stuff, trying to keep wife/adult sons and daughters/house and yard/age and health/retirement preparation/work in some balance.
