Getting a theme together for a pulp campaign and am looking for a 28mm figure that could pass for Magnum from the TV series.

Would also like to get something for TC, Rick, and Higgins (and of course, the Dobermans Zeus and Apollo).

Tricky to find adult male figures in shorts and Hawaiian shirts, of course, so just looking to get close. I've tried some of the zombie survivor lines, but haven't found quite the right thing. Any suggestions appreciated.

Paint a moustache on any figure of any sort – goblin, commando, hoplite, alien.

It's all about the moustache.

I'm afraid I can't help you either. It's funny you bring this up, as our family has been slowly watching the old re-runs over the past few months and I've sometimes thought it would be fun to game some of the episodes (with tongue firmly in cheek, of course). That unique wonkiness of the 80s is certainly there in full force, and we've been struck by how innocent a lot of the shows seem when compared to most modern fare. My eleven year old daughters love the series just as much as the missus and me, though I'm afraid Higgins is their favourite character, which doesn't seem quite right somehow.

Selleck had to be one of the most charming actors ever. It's been nice to read that supposedly he's an extremely nice person off camera as well.

Anyway, carry on, and best of luck with your search!

It was one of the first TV shows that dealt with Vietnam vets as human beings. I still get goose bumps when I watch" Have you seen the Sun Rise"

Forgot to add he was the first choice for Indy

I think there might be one or two figs in the Hasslefree line that wear a shirt and shorts…?

Higgins is OG.
Higgins is – as far as I know – the only TV character who was a Mau-Mau Rebellion vet.
That gets him points in my book 'cause that was Dad's war.
(I can even excuse them the 1930's style pith helmets worn by British forces in the flashbacks!)

As well as Indy, Tom Selleck was one of the many American actors sounded out by Cubby Broccoli about the possibility of playing… James Bond.

If you can find one on e-bay, look for Frank the Repo Man from Zombicide.:

Impact has some minis of the Dude and Gary in shorts. Might be overly specific, though.

Can you get the Ferrari in the right scale? How about TC's helicopter?

benglish04 Jun 2015 12:40 p.m. PST

Car is easy, chopper a little tricky … I'm just amazed at how hard it is to find a figure that's even remotely like magnum -- even just a detective in a ball cap would work, but nothing. TC is doable, even Higgins. But no Magnum. Very frustrating.

Considering all the literary/film types that have been covered (let's see: Indy, Tintin, Sherlock, Doc Savage…heck, they've even done Scooby Doo and gang!), it really is odd no one has covered these guys. It just doesn't seem right.

Katzbalger05 Jun 2015 2:34 a.m. PST

There were very cheap 1/48 Hughes 500 choppers available a few years ago (same company that did 1/48-ish Humvees). Now, these were 500s with the TOW pods on them, but I've already converted one by taking those off. All it needs is the correct paint job and its TCs chopper.

And for Magnum, he was frequently in Hawaiian shirt with jeans, so you don't necessarily need a figure in shorts. And now I'm thinking of using the WF zombie survivors set and seeing if I can cobble something up. Damn--I do not need another project.

Damn, now I've got the theme music running through my brain…

…blast it. Why do I keep reading these kinds of threads?

if you're still looking for Dobermanns, this set from Ral Partha has two (along with two Alsatian/German Shepherds):

Currently have limited access to the web, but might be worth checking Black Hat Miniatures modern civilians range, Killer B's Geezers range, RAFM's USX Modern Heroes and Crooked Dice. Good luck in your search.
