Reviewing the DH on Saturday I see the following: the conservative/religious guy gets sent down for 4 day and two liberal/science guys gets 12. I do see a consistent pattern. Yes, entirely consistent……. To put it bluntly tells me everything I need to know about Armintrout as a moderator. |

I'm not certain that it's ever a good idea to ask your audience, "Am I terrible at this job?" I am certain that, if you do this, it's not a good idea to argue with people who answer in the affirmative. |

I guess the big question is, now that the editor has requested feedback on forum moderation, and has received it, what – if anything – will he change? Because that's, you know, the whole point of asking for feedback. |

It's arbitrary and biased, with non-Americans and those with a perceived 'left-wing' attitude, or those who support the scientific method over blind wilful ignorance doing noticeably badly. That said, I'm not sure I could do a better job…. I will say thought that the rule over not dissing media sources does mean, in theory, we have to accept the North Korean State Media as gospel. |
Weasel | 08 Jun 2015 11:00 a.m. PST |
Now that you've mentioned that, some troll is going to start posting North korean media stuff and pounding the report button :-) |

Reminds me of Jon Lovitz's character Tommy Flanagan, the President of the Pathological Liar Association, on SNL: "And then I got a job in journalism writing for the National Enqui – Geographic. Yeah." "I read somewhere that everyone who disagrees with me on TMP is a big dummy . . . I wrote it, and I read it! And no one can push the complaint button on me, because they'd be violating the news source rule, and they'd be Dawghoused for five da-, mo-, YEARS. Yeah. That's the ticket." |

I know I've sailed close to the wind on a few topics, but I have noticed the disproportionate treatment on science boards when the side that's unconstrained by facts and peer review are given more latitude to comment than their opponents. Granted there may be more diplomatic ways to tell somebody they or their source is mistaken or unable to do simple algebra, but it does get repetitive after some time and frustration leaks out. I know I've had to drastically edit my post after I've submitted it in order to excise the snark more than once…
So you're saying there is no political or other bias, just certain groups tend to degenerate into name calling faster. |

TMP is moderated? Who knew?! |
deephorse | 12 Jun 2015 10:08 a.m. PST |
So Bill, having asked for and received feedback on the state of moderation here, do you plan to do anything to address the points raised? |
Editor in Chief Bill | 12 Jun 2015 10:12 a.m. PST |
I'm waiting to see the poll results… |
deephorse | 12 Jun 2015 12:35 p.m. PST |
I'm waiting to see the poll results… This entire thread is pretty much a poll on the state of moderation here. It seems unnecessary to run a poll when the title of the thread invited us to rate TMP moderation. Or are you hoping for a different outcome next time? |
Editor in Chief Bill | 12 Jun 2015 1:10 p.m. PST |
When do you plan to run the poll ???? There's currently a three to four month waiting period. |
KTravlos | 12 Jun 2015 1:41 p.m. PST |
In my eyes there are two TMPS The Miniatures Page: A site on miniature wargaming. This one is moderated well and I happy with. then their is this carcinoma The Miniatures Page: Editors in Chief Political Blog/Current Affairs Discussion Forum/ Equivalent to posting in the comment threads of National Review, Commentary, Salon, The Nation etc. This one is not moderated and it is a terrible thing. A pity like a malignant tumor it is tied to the first TMP. The way you deal with tumors is you cut them out. |
freewargamesrules | 12 Jun 2015 2:30 p.m. PST |
As others I see it as inconsistent and biased towards the moderators personal views. |
deephorse | 12 Jun 2015 3:27 p.m. PST |
Maybe this poll could jump to the front of the line ?????? Indeed. I can't see any other poll topic being as important as this one at present. But, as I said, you already know the opinion of that portion of the membership that could be bothered to express one. What point a poll in three to four months time? |
Editor in Chief Bill | 12 Jun 2015 3:30 p.m. PST |
What point a poll in three to four months time? Why, is TMP going somewhere? |

We've reached the point where we're apparently supposed to take sides in this nonsense, and The Editor is out for blood … Is that a threat of violence ?!? Are you mad … you can't mention anything about violence on a site about wargaming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Legion 4 | 13 Jun 2015 8:03 a.m. PST |
It's arbitrary and biased, with non-Americans and those with a perceived 'left-wing' attitude, or those who support the scientific method over blind wilful ignorance doing noticeably badly. Duuude ! I'm a Yank and if I spend anymore time in the Dawg House, I'll have to change my screen name to the "Cooler King" ! Now where is my baseball and glove ? |
Oh Bugger | 13 Jun 2015 10:35 a.m. PST |
I'm minded of that great American writer John Steinbeck. Of Mice and Men we did at school it was pretty good on the nature of violence. My favorite though was Cannery Row. Mice and Men though sticks in my mind for the precision of glove and vaseline. He will be best rememberd for the Grapes of Wrath. Thanks for the memory. |
