Hey folks, i'm new here, and I'm also new to historical wargaming. I did some 40k earlier on, but was and am still a poor student that could never afford the hobby.

That being said, I splurged and finally bought a big ol' set of reaper paints, so this is my first figure using them. Gone are the dollar store acrylics! :D

So I decided to share the first mini of a new age. It's just a simple ECW pikeman, and it turned out a tad too glossy with the liquitex matte varnish… and i'm hoping to set up a proper photobooth soon enough.

Suggestions and comments are welcome, thanks guys!

That looks good. I would be happy to put him on the table.

Looks nice. If you used a dip method for shading that tends to add to the glossy look. I think if you spray it with dull coat, it will take the shine off. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Welcome rottenronald,

The pike man is from my much preferred range of 28mm ECW figures and you have done a very, very good job.

…tad too glossy …

Yes, I think so on the trousers. It wouldn't be my choice but, let me say, your quality workmanship is such that I wouldn't turn the figure down if offered to me or the price was right. Well done.

Very nicley done.

Very nice paintjob, a quick spray with a can of matt varnish should remove any sign of glossiness.

Very nice brushwork. Sometimes the camera picks up shiny when it is dull.

Lovely job!

I think it may shine in the photo but I'll bet in person, the figure looks just fine. I've had similar "too shiny" issues with some of my 1/72 scale fantasy figures.

Well done!

Change your varnish, re-varnish. Otherwise, it looks pretty good to me.

Great job on the eyes. I never paint them myself because I can never get them right.

I like gloss, I gloss everything (except WW2)…..

Supercilius Maximus10 Jun 2015 1:42 p.m. PST

Most people find it hard to put a gloss on WW2.
