Just wondering if Fantasy Flight Games will be doing the Ship Bases by themselves?

I ask this because there are gamers who by one way or the other brake the ship bases regardless of what Spaceship game you're playing.

The other reason I ask is that there are people who are making other Star Wars Armada type ships that'll need bases so that's why I'm asking.

Here's some 3D printed ones: link

*Disclaimer* I am not affiliated with Miniature Market in any way, just a satisfied customer.

Just passing along some of my observations:

Mel's small bases: $13.52 USD, and you have to wait for printing.

Miniature Market Nebulon-B or CR90 Corellian Corvette: $13.77 USD, and you get some cool ships and tokens in addition to the base.

Mel's Medium base: $21.62 USD, and wait for printing.

Miniature Market: Victory or Assault Frigate $27.57 USD, and you get tokens, ships etc. with the base.

Mel's squadron bases: $12.36 USD (for 4) – $25.50 USD (for 6) and wait for printing.

Miniature Market : both Rebel and Imperial squadrons $13.77 USD, for 8 bases plus the tokens/ships and the bases can be modified into single or double stands.

Now, I have purchased quite a few of Mel's ships and they are fantastic. He has my highest respect, but the printing process is generally not cost effective for bases.

A friend showed me Mel's stuff and I do like them and maybe get some of the Fighters like the Tie Defender(I think it was) I figure Armada will most likely make the other fighters at some point but who knows.

I have purchased at least one of every capital ship for Armada and the stormtrooper transports, Lambda shuttles,Y-2000 freighters,TIE Avengers and XG-1 Assault Gunboats. I doubt FFG will make Avengers or Assault Gunboats as they have ignored them (at least for time being) for X-Wing. I do think FFG will eventually make Defender and E-Wing squadrons, perhaps some Lambda's and some of the other ships from X-Wing.

I think it far more likely to see Litko or CorSec do bases that could function with Armada than FFG. Take some fine dancing as far a design that isn't the same, merely functionally the same, but I've faith.

I think some of the Galactic Expanse ships would be PERFECT.

@ The Beast: I both agree and dearly hope you are correct. I really don't need or want a dozen each of the Neb-B or CR90 and at the rate print "sculptors" are making ships this might end up being the case rather quickly.:)

indierockclimber02 Jun 2015 7:12 a.m. PST

@Moonbeast Damn, when you put it like that… thanks for keeping me from buying a bunch of 3d printed bases!

Now I just need someone to talk me out of that Venator to use as a "counts as" VSD I.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2015 7:55 a.m. PST

Yes, I can sense you really want it, and should buy it immediately. It'll be another base to repurpose, as well.

Oh, wait, I was supposed to talk you out of it? Whoops!

The main reason I asked this question is quite simple what if you happen to break/damage one or more of your bases FFG should be able to sell you replacement bases for a fee.

I know that in the past other companies have done this so that's the reason I asked.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP03 Jun 2015 10:50 a.m. PST

Ah, addressing just your first question: such a replacement oft is considered 'customer service.'

Occasionally, such a replacement would be for free, but might require proof of breakage, and/or replacement of just part.

In the end, larger companies seldom respond in a forum, and FFG is starting to FEEL like a large company. Best ask them direct.

Doug

Edit: Please note, I believe FFG would consider it in their best interest to NOT sell bases for DIY ships. Selling 'the latest and greatest' of their own would.

Lion in the Stars03 Jun 2015 6:19 p.m. PST

"Replacement parts" for damaged/broken bases tends to be a bit pricey for even the big names like Hasbro or Milton-Bradley.

But not as pricey as 3d printed parts.

"Replacement parts" for damaged/broken bases tends to be a bit pricey…

You'd think, but not always. I remember, when they were still available, that replacement variety Risk figs were damn cheap. Now, you just can't get them, but they always seemed more like a clearance item.

However, between selling you a sprue of 60 figs, and a whole box game, I know what I'd expect would be their preference.

Oh, and Hasbro IS Milton Bradley. Like Parker Bros. Like WOTC, Avalon Hill, TSR, etc. They are all 'Hasbro.'

Small world, no?

What I want to know is if FFG is going to port the Armada system to other settings – say like Battle Fleet Gothic?

Gulik2304 Jun 2015 10:55 a.m. PST

In my experience FFG has been very accommodating with replacing parts--I broke 2 different ships for X-Wing and they replaced them no problem, even after I was upfront about breaking them because of my own stupidity!

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP05 Jun 2015 6:26 a.m. PST

@Tim EXCELLENT question!
Corollary: And license to NECA/Wizkids for Star Trek?

@Gulik23 I'm not surprised. Customer service is a difficult but necessary part of getting and keeping customers. We would have ALL remembered if you had shared a bad experience. ;->=
