If he has a pet monkey and teams up with a friendly alien named "Friday", I'm in.

Robinson Crusoe on Mars! Just what I was thinking. It just needs a cameo by Adam West.

If by "pet monkey" you mean "potatoes," and by "friendly alien" you also mean "potatoes," then this is the potato for you. Film. I mean, this is the film for you.

while I enjoyed the novel, Im unsure the story as written would make an exciting film. It has a an internal monologue for a narration which mostly consisted of basic chemistry notes and simple mathematical formulae.

Seems rather implausible to me, so I think I'll pass until it runs on TV some lazy Saturday, or Sunday afternoon, and I have nothing better to do.
