PiP, I like the idea of modifying the suits so no two are the same!

You asked about Chinese military aspirations and practices. The only story I've heard is that every year, when it's getting close to time for graduation at the Chinese military academies, the US military (and presumably the British and maybe Russians and Indians etc) experiences a rash of computer hackings and attempted hackings that can be traced back to Chinese addresses. The theory is that this is some sort of final exam or something. As you note, it is your universe, and I don't know how the people in these suits would rate in the pecking order, however, one suggestion would be that this is low class, and officers who fail the hacking exam get assigned to be in charge of such a platoon, if they don't draw permanent latrine management. Of course, if this is a high status job in your universe, it would work out just the opposite.

That's a thought. Certainly a thing. My feeling is that there will always be a need for some boots on the ground, especially if said boots can be both hard and smart, which is what these guys are meant to – special forces used for COIN ops.
