Is there (or are there) guides available matching paints with uniform colors? I'm looking to get into small scale (6mm or 10mm), I'm fairly new to Napoleonics (mostly I've played board games) and I accept that there probably isn't One, True set of paints, but I'm hoping to find some information to start.

If you are doing it in 6mm, you probably want to do it "wrong" in many cases. A "correct" French blue applied straight will look black. So I use a medium blue for French, muddy Red for British, medium green for French dragoons, etc.

Here's a good site to start with:

I sell Coat d'Arms and Vallejo and can point you to colors if you tell me what you're painting.

At the small size figures, scale effect will cause any color to look very dark. You will need to add a good bit of white to any color you use. And remember, veterans of the march into Russia claimed the dust was so thick, all uniforms were Tan colored.

I've been researching and I expect I'll be going with 10mm. To start, I'm going with the Peninsular fighting so I'll have to gather British, Spanish, Portuguese and French forces.

This also lets me focus on these forces and their uniforms.

So, Extra Crispy, what are your suggestions?
