I know I'm prone to some silly one-off projects, but I must admit the Alamo is pretty iconic. How many folks have an Alamo project – terrain (the Alamo!), minis (Davy!), etc – that's just dedicated to re-fighting the Alamo? Re-theming or repurposing those Napoleonics or Space Marines doesn't count. |

No. You paint up all the figures and the terrain and buildings and I will bring the beer. |

I have played init several times. A local club leader has it all in 54mm. On a club night we play just half of it using the old rules from the Courier. Very, very simple and fun. Just the right kind of game to start after you've had a few. He runs the full agme (with additional GMs) at the local cons. I'm pretty sure this is his set up (well, half of it anyway):

That is an incredible looking game, Crispy. Movement trays painted to match the table would be an easy way to make it look even better. Still amazing, though. Thank you for posting that! |

By "do" I assume we means, as WS says, doing the buildings and painting the toys. As opposed to playing in someone else's game. Yes, I did the Alamo in 28mm, with the old Hudson and Allen, and now do it in 15mm with Blue Moon. "Hell, I'm dyin' anyway, so I might as well go down cuttin'." |

The McBride's 15mm game is a beautiful setup and a lot of fun to play in. I play in it last Saturday night at Nashcon. |

Yes, in 28mm, 54mm plastic and in 60mm painted metal from Britains and Conte, amongst others. However, one of the jewels of my collection is the scratchbuilt Alamo made by CombatPainter. There are plenty of photo's of it on the web. Before "T" left NYC for Florida, I cleaned him out of his Alamo collection. Probably close to 1,000 figures, the entire Alamo compound and the Mexican village around it. Figure are based on individual ceramic floor tiles about 1 inch square. The cavalry has two tiles glued together. I am ashamed to say what I paid for the whole thing, but it was ridiculously cheap. He didn't want to take it with him, which was fine with me. It's spectacular!!! |

Despite painting a Mexican army for the MAW the Alamo doesn't appeal; surely the most forgone of forgone conclusions – a heavily outnumbered force in an indefensible position, with the attackers winning in the first assault. Of course if I was a Texan I'd probably have a particular interest. |

Was really tempted to do it with the 10mm set offered in the market place….. |

Does Mexicagnomes vs theGnome Star Republic at the Battle of the Alagnome count? These conversions were done specifically for the battle (though the terrain is not). I suppose, in theory, they could be used for other battles.

Gennorm, the GAME need not be a foregone conclusion. BLOODY DAWN bases winning the game on casualties inflicted on the Mexicans. There are also some fun alternate scenarios, including putting Cos and the reliable part of his Mexicans inside the Alamo, in 1835, instead of defending Bexar. The Texans are the attackers and the fighting is room-to-room, with 6 pounders as wall breakers. Another has Fannin's troops there, giving the garrison 500-600 men. Santa Anna takes time to batter down some walls, while the texans can construct barricades behind the breaches. Daylight assault. We've played the Alamo hundreds of times over the past 20 years (at cons and also with kids at my schools) and it is not the least bit predictable. |

I have two Alamos in 54/60mm plastic: one ginormous one using TSSD and Conte; the other using large Legend of the Alamo set from Classic Toy Soldiers. I also have the 6mm Alamo from Knight Designs. I'd love to have it in 15mm but with retirement coming later this year I've decided not to do it. The only way I see that happening is trading. |

Malamute's stuff is lovely and almost made me go back to 28mm. I'll still use it if/when I do Texas skirmishing games. |

We use the Blue Moon Alamo Fort and figures for our games. The rules are "ALAMO SOLDADOS", a variation of our "GETTYSBURG SOLDIERS" ACW Rules. This game will be featured at ORIGINS Game Fair next week. 15/18mm Blue Moon:
We have also done the Alamo with 10mm Old Glory:

That 15/18mm model is lovely. Disco Joe, you are correct I don't produce any guns at the moment. I am trying to focus on getting all the troops and personalities covered first. In the meantime there are plenty of companies that make very nice Napoleonice guns that are suitable. For my own collection I use Front Rank guns. |

link Made of plywood with jigsaw and gamed with old Courier rules called "Come and Take It." Sold all the figures and cannon to guy in Texas and fort to guy in Washington State. I know am the proud owner of a 6mm version still in the box. |

Combats is awesome! The Blue Moon is great, but they missed a few things, the lack of cribbing on the North Wall stands out. |

I spent money I couldn't afford to spend on the Hudson & Allen Alamo set about 15 years ago, spent a year to fix up and paint the buildings, and now have it in several large storage tubs in a closet -- here are some pics: link I've only used it a few times, and none yet for historical Alamo games -- there's been an interplanar fantasy battle there, and a zombies game, and I've used some of the buildings as North African buildings for the Arabs and French. But I've got troops in plastic 20mm for an historical game and am slowly working toward this goal. Texians are finished, and about a quarter of the Mexicanos. The Blue Moon set looks better than what I have, but I don't think I have the patience to do this again. Plus it's the wrong scale (for me). I really did work on my H&A set off and on for about a year, and painted very little else during this time. |
