Who makes the best minis for the Wild West?

ironicon29 May 2015 12:45 p.m. PST

I painted up quite a few Foundry minis about 4 years ago. These are the mounted version and on foot version of the same fig. They were fun to paint because it was a challange to make both look alike.
The freind I was going to game with decided he didn't like the game (Gut Shot rules) after 2 games.
I think these were the neatest old west figs. I've seen.

I always liked Dixon.

What specific scale were you looking for? Knuckleduster has an interesting line in 25mm. Old Glory has both 15/18mm and 28mm lines.

Foundry or Artizan

Definitely Knuckleduster.

I liked Foundry a lot. Closest to the world of the Old West Movies and the European comics I used to enjoy when was a kid. Those were a bit too pricy when I went into buying the figures. Instead, I went with Old Glory. Great minis, lotsa character.I really like them.

Another vote for Dixon. Love the poses.

Black Scorpion and Reaper.

Foundry has a great Old West line.

Sundance29 May 2015 5:14 p.m. PST

Personally, I prefer Dixon as well.

kallman29 May 2015 5:17 p.m. PST

As others have stated Foundry, Artizan, and Knuckleduster, and Brigade Games in 28 mm. The Black Scorpion are quiet nice but too large for the other four being more like 30 mm and also tend to be more of a fantasy Wild West from my point of view.

Pulp just came out with Hollywood cowboys.

Unlike Highlander, there need not be only one. Buy them all. You can never have too many gunslingers. Otherwise how do you do the Lincoln County War?

Greylegion29 May 2015 6:28 p.m. PST

Another vote for Dixon. Love the poses and the detail.

The best is a mix of all the companies listed above, including some the old Britannia western figures. Though I have not been all that impressed with some of the newer western figures that have come up kickstarter in the last couple of years, but then again, old dog likes what he has seen painted before.

Knuckleduster are sweet, artisan too though sizewise they don't match up so great. Just got good, bad and ugly characters from aritzan, they're awesome. Knuckledusters Gus from lonesome dove is exquisite

Foundry and Knuckleduster

The older Foundry are smaller in size.

Knuckleduster will over take Foundry with awesomeness in another release or two…

Knuckleduster!

sneakgun29 May 2015 11:27 p.m. PST

My favorites are Shadowforge….

Another vote for Knuckleduster, plus Bob Olley's Victorian scrunts paint up well as Old West Figures, too.

Rudysnelson30 May 2015 8:10 p.m. PST

Artizan are solid castings, good range and easy for a store to get.
