I heard on the news a while back that they are just relocating to a new place with more reasonable rent costs. |

Yeah, saw this a week or two ago, and fingers crossed they'll be keeping going elsewhere – never good to see someone priced out of where they've always been though. :-( |

TRU says they're looking for a new site, but they didn't make any guarantees. I'm afraid they might just let the FAO store disappear and do what they've been doing for a few years now; slapping the FAO name on Pseudo-classic toys of average quality. I have fond memories of visiting (rarely buying though) FAO Schwarz stores here in the Chicago area as a kid. Unfortunately the FAO I remember (which wasn't the original anyway) was long gone by the early 00's. |

My wife and I were in the FAO Schwarz store in San Francisco, in 1996 and 1999 (now also long gone). Fond memories, and the loss a sad sign of the times. I would like to read, later down the track, of New York's re-opening, but I'm not hopeful. Duck |

That's really sad about the New York store. We loved it. Not such fond memories of the San Francisco store, as we lost our then three year old son there for about 15 minutes. I was terrified that he'd just walked out in to Union Square and vanished, but he did turn up eventually. |
