… In The Eastern Part Of The Country To The Islamic State.

"Reports have emerged that the Syrian regime has been preparing a military evacuation from Deir Ezzor after ISIS' victory in Palmyra cut ground routes to the besieged city.

"The Syrian regime is preparing to withdraw its forces in batches from Deir Ezzor," as ISIS continues its offensive to seize the city, Alaraby Aljadeed reported Monday.

A local media activist, identifying himself as Mujahid al-Shami, told the London-based daily that Damascus had begun to move military supplies out of a key base northwest of the city…"

With the fall of Palmyra Syrian military forces in the eastern part of the country have been cut off. But what is raising alarm bells is that the fall of this region would not only be a huge strategic win for ISIS, but apparently the military base that is there is a major arms depot for the Syrian military, and there is enough weapons and supplies to sustain the Islamic State for a long time.

I hereby issue them a Hitler "No Retreat" directive and declare the whole eastern region a "Fortress."

I mean, who do they think they are, Iraqis?😄

It has been said that the Palmyra operation was intended as a precursor for a major assault on Deir ez Zor and its surroundings. Very high chance of success seeing the Republican Guard troops based there were re deployed elsewhere not long ago….

I'm surprised they've held on for this long.

Not sure how people there have survived for so many years, in such a war-torn area, since it appears that normal commerce, and food production is probably heavily impaired, if not non-existent.

The secret was the road from Palmyra to Deir ez Zor. It kept the regimes forces well supplied but with that cut, it's down to a tenuous air corridor with IS increasingly in possession of MANPAD launchers …..

Are you kidding me !?!? According to some here, the Arabs in the region are some of the best troops on the planet !!!!!!! theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=385014&page=1 wink

Well Legion, they are "winning", or so I'm told.

Not sure which side they are referring to, but someone is.

Given the map of all the towns and regions taken over by ISIS in Syria, and Iraq, I have my own strong suspicions.

If you mean Daesh and AQ when you say "they" … evil grin

I wonder what percentage of Daesh's combat troops are foreign to al-Shams? I have read that a battalion of Chechens are some of their best fighters. I have read that they use foreign volunteers for many suicide attacks.

The Ottomans believed that there are martial races and non-martial races. They recruited Kurds as mercenary garrison troops/police for many Arab cities, including Damascus, Aleppo, Hebron and Jerusalem, that I know of. They refused to let Arabs join the Kapikulu; the Janissaries or the Sipahis of the Porte. The Ottomans thought that Arabs made the very best Ulama.

The Ottomans also thought that Jews made the very best bar-tenders, pimps and Bleeped texts. They liked to keep some on hand to fill those roles.

I can say that I have gotten where I am by following my natural inclinations and using my God-given talents. I recommend that course to all young people who are seeking a direction in life.
