Hihowdy all,

I am planning a space opera type campaign. I really like some of the skin tones in the recent Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Any suggestions on which paints I could use to achieve something close to the following?

My painting skills are just about on par with my three-year-old daughters', so nothing too advanced – if you can suggest an "out of the bottle" color / brand, that would be great.

Orion Girl – This one isn't from Guardians of the Galaxy, I just like the picture :) Skin tone is similar to Gamora.

Suggestions appreciated, thanks in advance!

To get a very nice red, I used Vallejo basic skintone and the old GW Baal Red wash, 3-4 coats of the wash.

I'd be willing to bet you'd get a good green and probably a good blue and/or purple using the appropriate GW wash (Thraka Green, Asurmen Blue, and Leviathan Purple, or their current equivalents). You might want to use a pure Green wash for the Orion girls instead of Thraka Green, since the old Citadel Washes had some black in them.

Turquise is also nice..

Thanks Lion, I happen to have the paint and most of the washes you mentioned.

Do you happen to have any pictures you can share where you have done this to show what the end result looks like?

For the blue….
Grey primer (spray). Blue ink wash (no base coat as his skin looks quite grey). Dry brush a mid blue, then add a bit of white and dry brush again. First dry brush should be quite wet, keep doing lighter and dryer coats until you get the final highlight you need.
Dry brushing is really easy. Just put paint on the brush and then wipe off onto some tissue. The drier the brush, the more it just hits the extreme edges. The final (almost white) coat should feel totally dry to the touch, yet it will still colour the figure.
It can look a bit chalky though, so good for the patchy blue, not so good for the smooth green skin. Simple tutorial below.

@EE: Not readily at hand, but I *might* be able to get some done Sunday. The box with those models in it seems to have disappeared into the Storage Unit of Doom(tm)
