ok, basic question, there were 2 primary colors for Yorkists and Lan. They have an interesting English name…what are these colors and what actual paint colors do you use to represent these? Also, is there a good source for painting guides? Thanks! |

there were 2 primary colors for Yorkists and Lan. Really? Where did you get that idea? |

As far as painting guides do, get "Standards, Badges, & Livery Coors of the Wars of the Roses" published by the Lance and Longbow Society. You order it direct from them, or from Vexilia. Very helpful. |

What they said – that booklet is worth its weight in gold – *definitely* buy a copy – it's probably the best investment a prospective WOTR gamer can make. As for "two colours", well there were lots more than that, and the booklet will give you a great rundown, but I'm guessing you mean azure and murrey, which, together with white were the most common livery colours for actual royals rather than lesser nobles. Azure was a medium-dark blue (darker than the term azure normally indicates in modern parlance) while murrey (literally "mulberry-coloured") is rather widely interpreted, but probably a somewhat dark red, hinting towards purple. For what it's worth I'm going with Vallejo 809 Royal Blue for azure, and a mix for murrey – 4 parts 945 magenta to 1 part 909 vermillion. Others' mileage will doubtless vary, but those work for me. (Apologies for the crappy camera phone pic – a bit dark as it's seriously overcast today so the natural light isn't up to much, but it should give an idea at least.) Dom.

were the most common livery colours for actual royals rather than lesser nobles. Um … no. Azure and murrey were the livery colours for the House of York. They were certainly NOT used by any royals of the House of Lancaster! |

The house of Lancaster used blue and white, so I stand by my sentence – azure and murrey *together with white* were the usual colours for royalty. (Even if we concede the house of Lancaster had any real royals….) |

Dom – are you making decals for livery badges? That looks pretty nice! |

Still a bit short of a viable range, but yes I've got a few done and hoping to release them when I find the time for a few more…. |

Was the OP thinking of "The Red Rose" and the "White Rose" when he referred to " two primary colours for Yorkists and Lancastrians"? The advice given above re the Lance and Longbow booklet is spot on, so good luck with your WoTR project Razuse. |
