I have some SS officers to paint. This morning, I was watching the musical version of The Producers and started wondering about painting them up to look like the costumes from the Springtime For Hitler sequences. This would be going for an archetype of the SS uniform, rather than the historically accurate. Has anyone done this or seen it on a gaming table? Any comments? I've got the first guy partially complete, and the historical Vallejo German Field Gray isn't that striking.

I'm painting Himmler for an Eat Hitler game.
I white primed him. Then I did Ceramcote Black, suitably diluted. I'll probably end it with The Dip, just to protect the paint from rubbing off when he is attacked by T-Rex.

Depends what you want to use them for, the black Allegemaine SS uniforms with big red swastika armbands aren't hugely practical for field use, but if field grey isn't cutting it then go with more a of mid pearl grey such as that found on better quality gabardine uniforms.

Never seen anyone do Springtime for Hitler uniforms but I have seen one player do a Battle of the Bulge German army using M47 tanks painted Grey with German crosses :D

Let me hazard a guess that someone wanting to do Soringtime for Hitler is not looking for guidance on uniform accuracy.
Again, just a wild guess.

Isn't there an Osprey guide for that..? ;-)

Perhaps Mel Brooks could be coaxed into putting out a line of miniatures!!

The Broadway show had dancers with spinning swastikas on the end of their breasts. Will you be incorporating that little detail, too? If so, post pictures!

@Winston Smith: I do not believe the OP was going to game "Springtime for Hitler" rather he painted his SS to look like those in that sequence.
