Yesterday we tried ECW using the 'Black Powder' variant Pike and Shotte. Although not a fan of Black Powder, I agreed to give it a go, and was happily surprised how a few modifications to the rules can improve the game! Either way, the write up is on my blog at: link I hope you enjoy reading it?

I'm with you herkybird. I'm not a fan of the Black Powder rules but I do like Pike and Shotte. For me the rules seem to work well for the period unlike Black Powder which covers too many periods during a length og time where warfare took many rapid changes. |

Read your blog. Here's what works for us….DFW Irregulars-Southern Front krew! Snipped and clipped from my response to your blog: We've had a blast with P&S ECW. A unit becomes shaken when it accumulates more than it's allotted amount of casualties. ie: a unit is rated at a 3, it won't become shaken until it accumulates 4. We've found this to be interesting too as units must be rallied rather than using them up in traditional wargamer's fashion. One thing I did not care for was the individual melee dice for each component of the pike block. Our rule for that is that the entire unit (pike and two sleeves of shotte) melees with 7 dice ala later 17th century armies and from Argument of Kings supplement (AWI). This works quite well. Play it some more. You'll like it! |
