The high-tech helicopter was slated to take to the skies last year but its launch was delayed while Sikorsky did further development and testing. The wait now appears to be nearing an end.

"The first aircraft is going through ground runs right now. We'll be flying within a two to three week timeframe," Douglas Shidler, the head of Sikorsky's joint multi-role technology demonstrator program, told National Defense May 19 at an industry conference in Tampa.

Wow this is an old concept. Fascinating to see it might actually be put into production.

Something about this profile reminds me of the Arado 234.

It looks lovely – but no launch customer is the real issue it faces.

The S-97 is a notional replacement for MH6 Little Birds, and it's the sub-scale prototype for the replacement of the MH60.

I really doubt that the Army will go for the tilt-rotor bird Boeing is pushing for the FVL program, but the Raider design is basically completely mature technology. Coaxial rotors have been flown since the 1950s, and we had a pusher prop helo back in the early 1970s.
