Well, that's this year's and next years toy soldier budget spent in a day. I've never crashed a payment system before!!!!

Still, I'm tied in now. I can't afford not to proceed. Peninsular gaming is on its way, gadzooks.

Well, I love 28 mm Napoleonics, and I SWEAR I'm going to start painting that Front Rank French Army I bought second hand 15 years ago. But I will admit, 15 mm does allow you to say, 'Those guys with the blue coats, they're French. If you can see the color of the facing and piping and it really bothers you that it's wrong for this regiment in 1812, go play with someone else's miniatures.'

you GO Olicana,

I am finishing my WSS British, the Blenheim column…will paint perhaps 1 more unit, then take a break and start my Front Rank Nap. project!

All of my armies are treated "generically." That is I freely proxy units left and right, as long as the appearance is close. So French line units are whatever unit they need to be today. Ditto for my Seven Years War and ACW. In WW2 my PanzerIvs come in two styles: short gun and long gun. Whatever AUSF it needs to be, it is.

That said I would never use a Panther as a Panzer IV, where the visual is really off. But just last weekend I refought Torgau as "the battle of nations." I had to use every Prussian, Austrian and French unit in my collection to pull it off. In 6mm that's a heck of a lot easier than in 28!

Extra C, I'm exactly the same.

The guys are currently playing Chotusitz at mine and next week, when Frederick arrives with his reinforcements, some will be wearing fusilier uniforms because I still need to paint three more units in tricorns – fusiliers will have to do until they are done, and they are Prussians (well kinda).

No kidding.

Wow, that was an impressive order! And I feel guilty about splurging on an eBay item that I just have to have. Well done! Looking forward to your painting and battle reports.

The planning of new wargame armies is a joyful hobby in its own right. I enjoy researching historical orders of battle, jotting their names and units on a sheet of paper, getting out the hand calculator to determine how many figures you will need at say 1:30 vs 1:20 ratio, etc. Almost as fun as the actual gaming.

The scary part is that James will have all of this painted within a year. evil grin

Texas Jack22 May 2015 12:24 p.m. PST

Congratulations! That was quite an impressive order, and now Front Rank can take the rest of the year off. grin

I actually had the Peninsular on my officially sanctioned project list for this year but then my wife asked me why I was going to more Napoleonics when I still hadnīt painted up my Russians from Christmas 2013. The answer was an assertive "well, er, well…" So I will have to live my Peninsular dreams through you. Sigh.

Desert Fox22 May 2015 12:46 p.m. PST

Take the rest of the year off…they're going to need the rest of the year to cast this one order!

Hohenlohe22 May 2015 12:49 p.m. PST

Hey, good luck. I suspect we'll see more and more of these grand projects as the gamers of the 80s approach retirement and some of them hit their peak prosperity years.

I predict that your activity, Paul Leniston's campaigns:

and mine represent part of a groundswell.

Cheers

Nice. I can't wait to see your progress on it!

I think you should rename your blog though, something about gaming the rest of you lot wish you could do!

Crashed the payment system, did you? I daresay that counts as breaking the bank in our hobby. I like your style Sir!

@ James.

Impressive "pile"! The painting should fill many a long winter night.
