I am finding it hard to find suitable figures fro USMC in Vietnam. I love the TAG figures but they only do one pack in flak jackets…..Why did the marines have to wear the flak vest ….makes it hard as i cant use the doggie figures! Any suggestions? or do i commit blasphemy and pretend they have flak jackets on ? :) |

RAFM do Marines in flak vests, I believe Battle Honours did some too. |

RAFM are 20mm. TAG are 28mm Tom |

I've seen plenty of photos of Marines without flak vests, so I think it would not be ahistorical to have some without. Now, those may have been rear-echelon (cooks, etc.) put on sentry duty and the like, but still. Rob |

Years ago some of the nicest figs I had for Vietnam were Force of Arms. I don't know if they are still available |

I bought the West Wind marines and mixed them with some TAG – lots of flak jackets. Here are some of mine:

I'd second the Battle Honors Marines… the Marine packs are in body armor (the US Army packs are not)… they are sold as 25mm, however they are a big (but non-heroic) 25mm in my opinion. Also, the weapons are scaled nicely with the figures, they are not as "oversized" as some out there. Chalfant |

I find Battle Honors figures to small to fit withTAG. , West Wind, and Baker Company. My first choice would be Baker Company followed by West Wind. Vince |

My understanding (and I wasn't there personally), is that Flack Jackets were available to all, but the Marines wore them more often. Meaning, figures with them, or without them, could be either Marines or Army. Use what you want to use. |

This motivated me to do the second post in my 28mm Vietnam blog – this time on the minis and vehicles plus how I painted them: link |

All of you interested in Vietnam wargaming might want to take a look at Fields of Fire Reloaded: link There is a wealth of information on those boards and lots of great eye candy. Tom |
